winter tees-reversal of roles

Our club is a rolling Parkland....
We play off full greens and full tee's all year round....
Half the course has limestone rock underneath it and the other half is on top of boggy land....
That being said the fairways hold there share of water ocer the winter but never have the greens or tee's been on temporary.

Richart I played Saunton courses years back and I am thinking of a wee trip back there next October. What was the course like condition wise, any tining done and are they as superb as they all say as I cannot really remember my rounds as it must be 20 years ago!

Dodger , both courses were in superb condition. Greens in November were faster than most in July. Despite all the rain course was firm, and perfect for chip and runs and texas wedges.

We did have one temporary green on each course, as they are working on the bunkers. The ones they have done are as good as anywhere i have played. Raked every morning and the ball seems to roll to the bottom and give you a good lie.

If you go betweeen November and the end of March, golf plus lunch is about £44. It is about £70 rest of the year without food. You can see why we always go in March and November ! Can't believe there are many courses in the UK in such good condition at this time of the year. We stayed at the Saunton Sands Hotel and got a 4 bedroomed apartment 5 Star, dinner bed and breakfast for £50 each per night. Also got 10% of green fees.

Can't wait to go back but it will have to wait until after our St Andrews trip next October.

Quite a few of our winter tees are actually further back than the Whites! We have mats that have been installed at the back of the tee box - why the fcuk couldnt the Greenkeepe put them to the side or front??

in the past, with the exception of one tee, all play from the same place. The exception was the only purpose built winter tee which had enough length to differentiate. This year we'll also have the old 17th to use as a winter tee.

actually it's not so unusual for the yellows to be ahead of some reds Fridays and weekends when they're trying to get societies through more quickly.
