During the winter months i am interested in alternatives as a lower cost ball which stll has a decent feel to it but if lost isnt so bad etc

My normal ball is either AD333 or DX3 which i generally pay £13 to £15 per 12

Was nearly tempted to buy dunlop, pinnacle, top flight etc etc would this be a horrible mistake

On average i guess i can lose 2 to 3 balls during a bad round, water, lost ball etc

I use Taylor Made Burner TP's in the summer, but my winter ball of choice is a yellow Pinnacle Gold Precision. Only £9.99 for fifteen balls! I know some people look down their noses at yellow balls, never mind Pinnacle balls, but they feel good to hit, still have decent control around the greens and are easy to find in the rough! ;)

Same as DelB Pinacle Gold Precision in yellow. A very good ball, far better than previous Pinnacle Gold incarnations and IMO it gives the AD333 a run for its money but at a much better price

I also am quite partial to Warbirds if I am looking for an out and out distance ball. Generally though would rather spend the extra few quid for a box of DX2s

If the greens are soft then anything is going to stop anyway and if they are rock solid you can have the softest premium ball hit perfectly and it won't stay on the putting surface. Horse for course and go with whatever you like the feel off and think is a good price. The only think I would look at is how hot it comes off the putter face as that is the one area you'll retain a modicum of control in the wet or the frost
