As the season ends, building for next year starts now for most. ANybody planning any bag changes this winter? I'm currently fairly happy depsite a complete mixture of clubs, lofts, shafts etc. I don't buy into trying to copy pros, I use what works for me. One thing i'm on the lookout for however is a mini driver, counting up lost shots over recent rounds and driver can sometimes kill me 4/5 times in a round. I know short game is the area for scoring etc, but chipping out of trees etc is a big killer also. I don't struggle with distance so i feel i won't lose out by dropping driver if i can find, and then get along with a mini driver.

So, what are you guys chopping/changing in the bag this winter?

The only caveat on above is if a shiny bargain comes along, i might find it difficult to resist!!

I've done all my changes now.

ping g15 irons and wedges out
716 ap1 irons and vokey wedges in

added a 46 vokey yesterday

now to learn how to hit them

Changed over to the Titliest sta dry a couple of weeks ago to try and keep all stuff dry. Odd that I seem to need more clothes and gear etc but less storage on the bag. Changed all clubs over and not changed owt in a sense of summer to winter, but ave changed from a 3,5 and hybrid to a newer 3 wood and hybrid.
Biggest decision for me is whether inch age from my ad 333 ball to a distance ball. Only time will tell.

Once I have to carry I throw out the fairway woods (our fairways are too long and scrappy to hit them well in winter anyway) and probably the six and eight iron, just to make the bag a bit lighter. I have a 20° hybrid which I might chuck in in exchange for the irons. It is slightly heavier than my 25 ° hybrid and I find it cuts through longer grass and wet ground with a bit more oomph. It's a cheap crappy club with a bit of a sledge hammer feel to it, but in winter it is just the tool I need.

i tend to switch putters once we get onto the winter course. Its exactly the same make and model, just older and a bit more bashed around once they start sanding the greens.

just cosmetic really

I'd like to replace my wedges this winter and the Nike Engage are top of this weeks hit list. Like the OP, considering a move to Mini driver but not sure it offers me much more carry than 3W, but perhaps a tad more friendly with the bigger head...

Possibly replacing my Odyssey Crimson Series 660, with a ping karston tr anser 5, but before I take the plunge and buy it, im trying out a superstroke flatso 3.0 to see if I fare any better, if not ill be picking up the ping post xmas

Definite:

Pencil bag for weekends & trips - ordered.

Likely:

New wedges in the new year.

Possible:

917 Driver / 3 wood to kick the season off (depends on progress with lessons)

New putter on 11th Nov ( taking advantage of the lee sullivan swash putting offer) and 3 new wedges any time around xmas and that should be me sorted

Drop driver, #2 hydrid & 4 iron. Low flying clubs that rely on run out for distance can be a waste of time when the ground is soft.

Once the greens get wet over winter I'll swap to harder golf balls (AD 333 etc) as the spin and softness of the Pro V's etc are negated. That and the harder ball usually goes further (at least in my mind - or maybe I'm convincing myself I still have it off the tees)

Take all the nice shiny white balls out of the bag and replace them with the well used, scuffed and slightly beige ones.

Only deffo thing il be adding is a 48 wedge, and maybe a spare set of irons. Although is anything ever safe?

Fairway wood is taking a breather to think upon its (wayward) actions
