If you want a toy, or dress like you'd like to be in a boyband, get an iphone. If you want to be able to pull your phone out and play with it every 5 minutes, not because you need to do anything useful, but because you just want to play with it, then there's an app for that.

If you want something reliable that does everything you need, get a blackberry.

Rubbish. Spoken like someone who has not used an iPhone for any length of time, or possibly at all. The iPhone is a much more versatile and usable device than any of the Blackberry models. The Blackberry has been left behind now by the iPhone and other devices.

Perhaps you should have said if you want to look like a management consultant stuck in the past, get a blackberry.

Or spoken by someone who had one and asked for his Blackberry back. Can you tell me one single thing that an iphone has over the Blackberry that isn't a gimmick / toy ?

Define gimmick/toy. There may be a difference between something you don't want/need and something useful to others.

Fair point, most of the stuff I just didn't see the point to, and found it really slow on pushing through email. Blackberry does everything I need faster, simpler and in a smaller package. Plus I'm not in a boyband ;)

Email should be fast. It is on mine, and the UI is much superior. I also find some apps useful. This morning, I remembered I had forgotten to record the Dunhill links. While stopped at traffic lights, I set it to record using an iPhone app. Maybe that is a gimmick, but it sorts out my evenings entertainment.

The OS is also much superior, and using MobileMe, all my calendar, contacts sync and I have access to documents placed on a remote server using iDisk.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understood that the only real 'push' email was Blackberry ?
I love everything Mac, i have an iMac and wouldnt ever go back to a PC, Period.
But, altho I love the look of theiPhone, and can appreciate its marvellous ingenuity and Apps, the truth is I just dont need them, and find that my Blackberry bold just does everything for 'Business' that much better.
Copy & paste for example......

Oh, and whoever said that they found the Blackberry keys a bit small to use, I dint think you've tried to use the touch keys on the iPhone ???!!!

Yes they are Coooool, yes they are ingenius, yes they are fabulous for storing Photo's etc etc, but for email on the go, and Business on the move, the BB is just better.
imo.

The iPhone email is, for all intents and purposes, push.

Copy and (cut and) paste is a feature in OS 3.0.

The touch keys are actually very easy to use. It is generally accepted that the web experience on the iPhone is better than the BB.

Oh no! What have I started!!

And I thought that this wouldn't be a contentious thread!

I can see the arguments for the BB and the iphone. Somethng puts me off Samsung as I had one of their phones years ago and it was dire. I know times have moved on...(and I'm in danger of losing my own argument on another thread on this tack!!).

Choices ehh!

(I thought the non phone ad that was posted earlier was very amuzing)

I've had my iPhone for just over a year now and you'd need to surgically remove it from my hand.

I've used a BB for a while and it is a great device as well, bit more 'business' functionality.

For an all round device I'd go for the iPhone every time.

Here's the way I look at it

:D e-mail - BB probably slightly better, but it's close
:) Web - No contest - iPhone
:) Audio - Again No Contest - iPhone
:D Video - Again iPhone. Load mine up with films for when I'm away on business so I don't have to watch whatever crappy foreign channels are available.
:)Games - Again iPhone. Tones of good games in the app store.
:D Camera - Depending on BB model. Don't think some of them have camera, but then again iPhones isn't great either - 3G S model has a better cam now.
:D Available Apps - iPhone all the way. Yeah there is a lot of dross in the app store but there are some genuinely useful apps. Sky+ app mentioned earlier, some good golf scoring\gps apps, Facebook\twitter if your into that, eBay client is really useful, SkySports and Sky News for keeping up with scores\news, PGA Golf app, again shot by shot coverage for PGA tournaments. I use the Yell app and About Me a lot for finding shops, bars, restaurants near me when I'm out.

3GS also has voice recognition as well now. Haven't used it so not sure how useful it is.

I know most people don't want\need all of that, but IMHO it does more better than just about any phone out there.

I know the 'cool' thing tends to put some people off as things that tend to be 'cool' really aren't that great when you get down to it.

The iPhone is undoubtedly cool, and it has the rare quality of also being a fantastic phone (email client, MP3 player, Video player, mini computer etc etc)

BB is boring and IPhone provides so much more so will not have to carry everything else around at the same time.
IMO Orange = 0 Range; I have O2 work and Voda for private both far superior to 0 range.
with new OS then most problems would appear to have gone away.
