Just don't get the Murray hate on here. Brilliant performance, great sportsman and seems like a genuinely nice man too.

Well done Andy!

To be fair Karen it's no different to peoples feelings towards other top sportsman, (Ronaldo/Tiger etc) you can't deny their ability or talent, but are not liked by some due to their perceived persona.

Couldn't agree more. Just been down the golf club and the number of people getting in a bit of "Scottish racism" if there is such a thing is untrue. Curiously, almost to a man the same people who were most vociferous about Brexit. Of course I wouldn't claim this has any scientific validity.......but just sayin'.

Probably all friendly banter like when Murray said 'Anyone but England' when asked about football.

Because he's a dull hard person who wine's like a bitch every time he losses a point. Just nothing likeable about the bloke at all!!!!

Indeed.

How sad that people don't like to see him winning and pick fault with him, at least Tiger Tim was a very nice man when he was losing eh!?

Other players "getting the job done for him"

Not sure why anyone would post that sort of stuff - Murray is a brilliant tennis player - puts his whole heart into it , he gets angry at himself , emotional , shouts at himself , its lonely on the court so self motivates himself and then is humble when he wins - a credit to the nation

People moan when sports stars are dull, emotionless automatons and they moan when players wear their hearts on their sleeves. Some people just like to moan!

Good professional performance by Murray to win without too much fuss. His return of serve is the best in the world in my opinion and his fitness and mobility around the court has come on so much in the last two years.

Jeez, the poor git gets criticised for fist pumping and verbal outbursts and then for being dull and unemotional....... can't win can he? Well actually he can and he did by playing superbly entertaining tennis. It's a shame that we don't have a program like "Superstars" any longer, I reckon Murray must be one of the fittest athletes in world sport.

Well as I put the comment about others doing the job for him.
I'll explain what what I meant. Not that I need to.

His record in finals against his competitors (worlds top 4) is not good at all. The golf in class him and the other three usually have (when fit) is substantial. Look at the major winners over the last 8 years and you'll see it's nowhere near as varied as golf. (5/20)
As to disliking him. I softened to him once I saw him out of the courts on league of their own. He's actually quite a good laugh. For me though, as with golf. I choose which players I like to win on their personality and ability not a national allegiance and good as he is, I think he isn't in the same league as Rafa, Novak or Roger. Players I'd much rather watch than him.

I agree he isn't at the same level as the other 3 in the main.

However, you do realise he comfortably beat the guy who was too good for Federer in the semi final?

That's why it's laughable trying to demean his achievement with comments like that.

Remember England were meant to have it easy against Iceland, you still have to go out and beat them. He was favourite aswell so maybe even more difficult as he's usually, rightly, the underdog against Djokovic, Federer or Nadal so expectations are much lower.

Sorry are you saying it was hardy for him to win be aide he had the favourite tag?
im pretty sure Murray would rather play anyone but the three mentioned and have the favourite tag, than face them in the final.

I agree you can only beat what's in front of you, just like I'm sure France were happier fancying Iceland than us. Even if we did play appallingly. But just because he beat federer, who tired massively as he seems to do more now. Doesn't suddenly make him any sort of star player all of a sudden.

As as to him thanking the others. It was tongue in cheek. I'm not sure I've ever heard a player or team thank others for helping. Of Murray had thanked them it would have shown an inferiority complex which you can't have at top level.

I said maybe if you read my post closely, I mean in terms of expectation both by himself and from the media as, of course, on paper it's an easier game.

Unusually for him he made it look straightforward today.

I'm aware it was tongue in cheek, the inference is that his achievement is somehow lessened because of who was the other side of the net.

It's not his fault Djokovic and Federer weren't good enough to make the final this year is it!?
