Apart from a few carefully selected ladies matches, it bores the bejesus out of me. The way Murray is feted is laughable, won nothing of note, got to a few slam finals and then bottled it. The only thing in his favour is that he's not Henman. Surely there's no other sport in the world where mediocrity is celebrated so much by a nation

Hold on Donald and Westwood have never won a major, so are they mediocre like Murray ? :D

No, they've both been number 1 in the world

Murray's been number 2 in the world, and not outside the top 5 for about 3 years. He has played in an era of Federer and Nadal, possibly the two greatest players ever. Donald and Westwood only got to number one since Woods went to pieces.

Murray is still young, and has plenty of time to win a major.

Some tennis is great to watch......

With just one leg, she does well to keep those boys in balance. :D

Didn't he only get to number 2 because Nadal was injured ?

Don't think we will ever agree on Murray, but i will have 10p with you that he wins more majors than Westwood and Donald. Federer to retire in next two years and Nadal with dodgy knees will help my cause. ;)

Still think someone ranked 4 in the world, in a proper competitive sport, is far from mediocre !

I'll take that bet Rich. The problem is that by the time Nadal and Federer move on, someone else will have come through who's younger, stronger and probably better. The problem I have is that there's loads of money in the British tennis system (didn't the governing body make a £56 million profit last year ?), and exaggerating the achievements of the players lets the governing body get away with what is basically failure. I had to turn the radio off yesterday because they were saying how amazing it would be if one of the ladies got to the third round !

No sign of any young tennis players coming through at the moment. Del Potro looked good, but his body is already knackered. Countries like the US and Australia are not producing any men players, hence Roddick and Hewitt still their number one players. Top 20 is still full of journeymen Pros. When was the last time a major was not won by Federer, Nadal,or Djokovic. Del Potro won the US but other than that ?

Don't worry about all the money being made, it will be spent on a roof on number One Court at Wimbledon. ;)
