Well, got back last night completely knackered, unfortunately didn't see the Northern Lights whilst we were there. Thursday night was very cloudy, no chance of seeing them. Friday was a beautiful, crisp clear day and everybody was sure we were going to see them that night. Visited a Reindeer farm in the morning which was very interesting, and at 6.30 went out on Skidoo's, 12 of us following a frozen river for some 10 kms out into the wilderness. It was eerily quiet when we got there, miles from anywhere and the sky was really clear. Have never seen so many stars twinkling so brightly. But unfortunately "the lights" didn't make an appearance. We rode the skidoos back to the hotel and there was a garage just down the road where the digital temperature gauge was indicating MINUS 22!! Saturday night was unfortunately met with blizzard like conditions with a biting wind and snow falling quite heavily which meant no lights again. Never mind, we had a great time over there, the hotel was good, and the highlight of the trip for us was a visit to a husky compound where we went on a really long husky sled ride which was absolutely superb.
A lot was crammed into the two days, and the flights were very tiring as when we boarded the plane at Gatwick on Thursday morning we were informed that we were to travel via East Midlands airport to pick up another load of passengers. This was repeated on the way home yesterday and for somebody who doesn't particularly relish flying, the additional two take offs and landings weren't exactly welcomed!
