Went with a mate to the range tonight as he wanted to try a 6.5 Project X shaft in an iron. He got one put in a Mizuno MP53 6 iron by our club pro. Of course I had a go, then another and about 25 goes in all and no matter what I did I just creamed it!In fact I could have held the mettely end bit and hit it with the handle and it would have gone where I wanted. I dont want to change my Graphite regular T/Made burners ... why oh why did I try it????

It's the lure of all things shiny. I love to try out the new clubs. I can't justify or afford any of them at the moment but I enjoy finding out how I hit them and whether they live up to their hype. I haven't got as far as the Mizzy range yet (Sunday I hope) but loved the I15's and the S56 although the latter weren't for my game.

A good cure for that is to go back tomorrow to the same range and use the same club, hit 25 balls again and after fats, thins, shanks and duffs you'll be happy again in your own mind that you have the best clubs!!

Not with all the new technology. Now they wait until they're in your bag before they start doing that. :D

Graphite regular too a 6.5 rifle and you were creaming it?????

I would suggest you have the wrong shafts in your current bats, that 6.5 Rifle should have been an iron bar for you!

Yes and no! I went to graphite when I had bad arthritus in the hips, about a year ago I had one hip replaced and the graphite allowed me to swing easier. I have never hit anything as stiff as a 6.5 rifle though but ... wow!

But as someone else said .. they will only go pear shaped if I buy a set

It's always the same when you try clubs you don't own, a relaxed care free swing is great but when you own them your attitude changes, the swing gets tight and your old faults are back

It's a real bu**er!

I arranged with the Club Pro to do a shaft fitting for the Mizuno MP53 after this mornings game with a view to (maybe) buying a new set.

So what happened today?? I played a winter league match this morning and shot my best ever front 9 - 1 over gross!

That was 7 pars and a birdie with a double bogie on the 2nd after a 3 putt and I am still wondering whether to change clubs! True though that the short game was on form and anything not on the green in regulation was chipped stone dead - if it could always be like that! The match ended with handshakes before putting out the 12th - sometime it is fun eh!

On the fitting side I swung the test shaft 6 iron at between 80 and 82 mph consistantly so I will only need stiff shaft and not the 6.5 Project x's that I talked about in my original posting
