If your looking at buying a new club/clubs then why not see what they will give you as trade in with your pro ...

Ive just got new set irons and was gonna trade set clevelands CG16 in 2 yr old and the pro said i would get between £90-£130,manage to sell them so thought id see what he would give me for 7 yr old set TM RAC OSII,looked at prices on the bay and same sets going for £25-£40 the pro offered me £53 i couldnt give him the clubs quick enough:lol: and saved me all the hassle of posting and listing so you may be surprised...

There's only one club in my bag that I had new, the rest were second hand. I buy and use what suits me, if that happens to be 5 years old then that's what I have.

Some people love to have the latest brand new equipment. Driver forgiveness and length hasn't really changed in the last 6-7years, being able to adjust things is the big difference in the newer drivers.

2nd hand value is relative to the current new price and with new releases every 6-12 months by the time you are looking to move gear on then the value has halved at least as there are 2 newer models available one with a 1/3 off its intial selling price.
Even newly released clubs are being price slashed within weeks of launch, all has a knock on effect on the 2nd hand market.

Why are used clubs worth nothing? Even when they are in nearly new condition, they seem to be worth next to nothing. Just because someone has hit them a few times before you does it mean that they are worth less than half the retail price paid?
No vat to pay to the money grabbing government but still they are worth peanuts.

Ah, the random vagaries of the 2nd hand market.

I sold a load of kit last summer (a la Homer) and got good money for it all apart from the newest and best club in my sale.

The only thing I could think was that at 3-4 years (season) old, there were 100s of them. Wheres the other stuff was one of 2 or 3 only.

To put a flip on it I try to buy newish used and generally buy pretty smart with little or no loss.

Example: my CV irons were last seasons when I brought them, they had been used for three rounds and this was backed up by the pro the comer from only three weeks prior to my purchase.

New £699 wish
Discounted at several stores as last year's £379
Three rounds old £250.

I have been contemplating new irons and mine have been booked by a playing partner at £225.

£25 for six months use is a very small loss

My CB's are going for sale shortly at £220 and a similar age, looks like my price is right however if someone wants them with the upgraded shaft and new whiteout grips I'll be trying to recoup most of that

Things are worth what people will pay for them.

If you buy second hand stuff you can get a fantastic deal out there... it does swing both ways you see!

I agree. I was looking at 2nd hand cars the other day. There were two that caught my eye (not to buy, just comparing the "value").

1 was a mini, 3 years old, was £15,000 now £9,999
the other was a Jeep, 2 years old, was £30,000 now £9,999

silly really, unless you've got £10k and want a big car.

I alwas try to buy new clubs as i don't know how the previous owner has treated them. Even if they say they have been treated well, can you always trust someone?

I bought my RBZ hybrid in January for £90 in the sale. After a lesson I felt the regular shaft was too soft and wanted to upgrade to the stiff shaft. So 6 weeks after purchase and very minimal use as it had a tendancy for going left I thought trade it in and get the stiff. They offered me £20 as the stage 2's were now out! Far to say I didn't bother! I've since bought the shaft from eBay for the grand total of £7.50 inc postage!
