first medal of the season this morning (don't ask! I still can't putt), other comps starting/started this week and this weekend - so why do they wait till yesterday to tine every green (a potato dibber makes a smaller hole!) and scarify the entire surface of the putting green?

they did get round to starting to cut the fairways - in the middle of the competition!

I'll defend the green keepers...
Competitions are set in the calender, green keepers work by the weather mostly and no doubt there will be some cross-over. The (our) green keepers do take the schedule into consideration but look at the long terms benefits of the course first. After all you do reap what you sow...

I know it's frustrating but everyone will have to deal with mostly the same conditions.

I shall now await the public shooting :p

I agree, the greenkeepers at my club tined the greens twice before we had the really bad snow and freezing conditions between the start of November and start of February, the terrible weather never allowed the greens to 'heal' so they were in a bit of a mess. We were on temps pretty much all through February and most of March (obviously also while we had the horrid weather) which really upset some of the members. Then when we thought they were getting something like they tined them again about 3 weeks ago! Well people were moaning left right and centre but looking at them now they are superb for this early in the season and should be stunning all through the summer.

The greenkeepers know best.
