Take up golf?

No idea why but was wondering what got me into playing. My dads played since I was a nipper but it never interested me to play despite being made to watch it most weeks on tv. I even got dragged to the range a couple times as a kid but never hit a ball as i just didn't want to and martial arts was always my thing.

I've managed to narrow it down to one week where I thought yes I wanna give this game a crack, it was watching the USPGA that Martin Kaymer won. I got engrossed in that event, the drama that happened and seeing the cool German beat the flamboyant Bubba.

So that was it for me I started to get right into this game thanks to Martin Kaymer, and as such credit him to being one of my 3 favourite players, and also been much closer to my dad as we play together once a month.

My son when he was approx 8 or 9 years old, wanted to play crazy golf then saw the driving range and the rest is history

However if back then i knew i would still be crap at it now i would of packed it all in and looked for an easier way to have a hobby as i seem like one of golfs naturally non gifted which is a shame, i have real envy for you low handicappers that play off single figures 12 months after starting to learn how to play !!

Was in a 5 (yes FIVE) day meeting at work and two of the lads said on the Monday they were going for a round afterwards, they then came in on the Tuesday and discussed it incessantly had a small argument about the result so arranged another game that night.... Wednesday/Thursday repeat process, so on the Thursday they asked if I'd like to come along and lend a spare set.. loved it and the rest as they say is history.

I used to have a very stressful job that was difficult to turn off. A few of my colleagues dragged me onto the course one evening, the three/four hours of only thinking of the game in pleasant peaceful surroundings totally relaxed me and I was hooked. Now I am retired I play at six days a week, just can't get enough.

I played a pitch and putt course with friends and got a 7 on most holes. Decided I was obviously a natural, so started playing!

I got moved classes in school when I was 14, the guy I got moved to sit next to was the only person I knew who played golf. I went with him to play at his golf club - mile and a half walk and a bus ride with my clubs on my back - and absolutely loved it.

I'd get him to describe and draw the holes when we were back in class - so sad I know, but I just couldn't wait to get back and play again

my dad's work had a 9 hole pitch and putt in their grounds. he took me there when i was a nipper to cut my teeth. played the odd game during the summer as i grew up then i joined a club in 2009 and havnt looked back as they say!

i had an interview in the same place a few years ago so packed a wedge and putter for a knock down memory lane afterwards. when i got there it was like a forrest. you could still make out the fairways as there was less trees there. a very sad view indeed!

so i have to thank Dupont for getting me into golf!

When I was 16 a few of us played on the pitch and putt to keep us occupied. Only lasted a year or so. Then in my late twenties thought I'd start again as I wasn't doing anything other than working and sleeping! Played about ten rounds a year as it was tricky to get games when friends were free I wasn't and vice versa. Anyway about three years ago I thought sod this I need to do it properly or not at all and so joined my club, play at least once a week and never looked back. My mates have all joined now although we still rarely play together as we're all in different four balls!

My son.

After getting the Nintendo Wii and the sports game he played it non stop for 2 years while consistently nagging to play for real. He ahd been trough rugby and football phases, even tried Kara tie but nothing ever stuck all just a passing phase. Anyhow I came into a little bit of money and decided to buy him clubs and sig up up at the local course, he had a few lessons and enjoyed himself so I signed him up as a full member.

Then a week later the pro asked if I had ever played and gave me a free lesson while my boy was on the putting green and bloody hooked me on the game as well.

I contracted Scarlet Fever and was self-quarantined at home for pretty much all of July 1992. With nothing to do but sit around and watch day time TV I remember being bored senseless but after flicking between channels one day I found this rather interesting golf tournament was on with one Nicholas Alexander Faldo to the fore. Come the following Sunday I was feeling much better and of the opinion this golf bats game had something about it.

My dad and grandad played. Now I think about it, most of the men in my family played. I can't remember the first time I held a golf club, but I can't have been very old.

I played football until a cruciate injury put paid to that. I went on to play tennis for about 10 years and then a range opened nearby. After a few months of practice and a lesson or two I played a game of golf, was immediately hooked. I played the last winter league game of tennis on the Easter Sunday that year, won one of my best ever games, walked off court and never played again and the next Sunday was shooting a well earned 140 round my, newly joined, golf club.

My grandad played and my uncle started by doing a bit of caddying well pulling the trolley anyway and a few sneaky putts out of sight of clubhouse. Got the bug and been with it every since, although had a couple of phases where stopped playing regular for a while.

I first played golf with my mates from the pub at Dunbar. They would just go for a batter, but I found out soon enough they were quite good and one got it round in 79. Well that was enough for me, 79 was my target and I was hooked. stopped playing for about 10 years and I never played in the winter but now I do and funny how 79 is still my first target. Checking all my comp scores from last year I managed to be under 80.
