Why Are Our Politicians So Crap?

Its not that there crap the do the job there there to do its just , not that they represent the populous, its a small group of the elite

Very good bit of proper journalism. He's right, politics in its present form is dead and it's time for a rethink.
200 in commons and 100 elected for the lords. No more than 4 terms in office and non political employment before becoming an MP would be my preference.

They'e crap because they know nothing of life outside politics.

Previously MP's would have had worked outside of politics, had an understanding of life & the world and how it works and would have the nous to be able to see solutions to the issues brought to them. They bring their developed talents to another arena.

The modern lot come out of university, get jobs as researchers or assistants within politics and know nothing of the outside world. One trick ponies that fail Billy Connolly's test of suitability as politicians.

Once upon a time politics was a vocation and a belief. Too many of today's bunch of idiots treat it as a career. They look at the promotion prospects, of becoming ministers, of becoming Chairs on Select Committees. They don't look for promotion on merit, they chase it by licking, and lying their way to the top.

Johnny Mercer cant be thought of in that way but unfortunately he seems to have an agenda and he comes across at times as a very angry man.

Well I admire the Tory rebels, courageous in the face of intimidation and bullying from sheer hypocrites in govt. Wake up call for Johnson.
They could all act like sheep and meekly do what they're told but they are showing courage in what they believe in imo and trying to protect the UK people from needless hardship. May's deal is it, either take it or revoke.

You admire the rebels for foisting a deal on the public that is, according to experts the worst it could be or denying them Brexit? Care to explain the thinking?

You give them more credit than I think they deserve. Not one of them has the courage to say that they are doing this for only one reason, and this is to stop Brexit.
I'd give them more credit if they stood up and said it.

Most if not all voted to leave 3 times, Johnson and Rees Mogg didn't. How on earth was that trying to stop Brexit? Please don't give the BRINO excuse, Mays deal made us leave the EU, that was all that was on the vote slip in terms of leaving. They turned on the liar leading them.

I credit you with more intelligence than actually believing what you posted.

I think Douglas Adams summed it up perfectly when he said:
“The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”

These Tories rebelling showed courage and conviction in standing up to Cummings threats. Stand by that.
Intricacies of types of deals or no deals is far more complicated than Joe public can really understand and be simply decided by a binary choice on a vote slip. Last 3 years have demonstrated that, if nothing else. Predict Mays deal will look better and better to leavers as time wears on. You'll recall JRM and BJ both voting for it 3rd time so they have weakened before.
No Deal threat is not a negotiating position either.

Really!
If you were a Union convenor and in a wage dispute and you went to the employer saying " I want a good deal from you but you should understand we will not take any industrial action" What kind of offer would you expect to be taking back to the lads?

This deal?

That's never going to look anything but :poop:

If the House overrules BJ in order to vote in something they've already turned down 3 times then the whole system needs tearing down & replacing.
