I wouldnt say arrogant...confident, which you have to eb in order to make it to the top at any sport...infact in any walk of life.

Ive met a few tour pros at events, and on the whole they have spoken, or joked with people around the course. There are some grumps, but again thats to be expected in all walks of life!

If you meant tour pros then thats what you should have said. I know of only a few club pros who are a little cocky, but not all can be tarred by the same brush!

Why did you even ask the question and was it just directed at tour pros?
Bob, do I have to go to the lengths of justifying a question that I want to ask the forum?

It's pointed at whichever level of pro golfer you want it to be...let's say all of them.

The reason I ask is that yesterday I saw a couple of people asking questions of a club pro and the guy was a total imbecile! He was so 'couldn't care less' that I genuinely felt sorry for the chaps asking the questions - and I have seen this a LOT from club pros.

Is there a reason to be stuck up yourself just because you can hit a ball well? As mentioned above, perhaps it has something to do with confidence? Or is it just bad social skills?

This has got to be the worse post for a long time , shop pros work as hard as anyone, the pros at our club go out of there way to help ,as for tour pros i've met Harrington a nicer guy you couldnt meet same as was Payne Stewart before he passed away , these guys are human the same as everyone else

Guys this is a forum and as such people should feel that they can express there opinions, so long as they aren't overly offensive. The question isn't that inflamatory in my opinion, maybe contoversial though.

As someone has pointed out, it is people that are arrogant and I personally don't think that their profession has any relevance. I am a civil engineer. I know some civil engineers who are arrogant and some who are not, but it is not because they are civil engineers!

Bob
You are a legend on these pages and I am 100% certain that this question wasn't posted with you in mind.

What about Homers avatar then????
:D

This gets better and better.
Now pros are arrogant, up themselves and have bad social skills?

TBH if I were capable of getting up myself, I'd be pretty arrogant, and I'm pretty sure I'd rarely set foot outdoors, so I'd have little chance to practice social skills either.

I take it special stretching and flexibility exercises are required.

And a singleminded dedication to boot.

I've just read this thread and can see it hasn't been the best in the world. Out of interest what is wrong with my avtar. Its never caused anyone any problems before and judging by the behaviour on this thread "what kind of hell is this?" is a rhetorical and accurate question.

That aside, I think in the elevated ranks for the tour pros, there are many that do a lot of good work signing stuff at events, and a load more that do sterling work for charity (often unseen). I've had great responses from Westwood whenever I've asked for signed stuff to auction off. There are however some that think because they can knock a white ball around a chunk of land they are suddenyl better than everyone else and their attitudes suck. I have no problem if a guy is out for dinner etc with him not wishing to be disturbed but seeing the way some rebuke kids who look on these guys as heroes and role models is sometimes blood boiling.

In terms of the everyday pro (and forum guru Bob) I've found 99% of those I've encountered at clubs up and down the country spot on and at times offer a welcome and service over and above the call of duty. Of course there are those that are having a bad day, caught at the wrong moment etc who have been a little off but I'd never hold that directly against them.

Anyhow, back to the OP.

It is a case of some are, some arent, same with footballers.

I can justify it to an extent, imagine being pestered your whole life. Seve for example loathes people approaching him when he is out for dinner or with his kids, I love the man and totally respect that stance.

Pros I have met who are great, Ian Poulter, Benn Barham, Graeme McDowell, Oliver Wilson, Jeev Milkha Singh, Miguel Angel Jiminez, Lee Westwood plus a few more.

Ignorant ones by the OP definition, Monty, Sergio Garcia, Paul Lawrie , Reteif Goosen.

The king of the arrogant though is Justin Rose, Im not going into the full details but a bob on the nose would be deserved in my eyes.

You clearly dont have a clue.

Paul Lawrie is a gem of a man and very very humble, in fact if anything he is very shy.

Having spent an evening in John Dalys company this evening i have to disagree with the OP.

Speaking for the Irish touring pros--Harrington, Clarke, McGinley, McDowell, McGrane, Murphy--they are all well respected and grounded despite their wealth and are certainly not arrogant.

Our club pro is the complete opposite of arrogant.

I think its not a very good post, yet its seems to be doing well, who am I to judge?

Tour Pro's can be Arrogant and I think its expected in some ways, but not all of them are.

As far as Pro's in general go, the vast majority work very hard for very little finantially, I once earned £350 for 4 hrs instruction, part of which was travel time, I dont think many golf pro's get that sort of money for teaching.

The majority of pro's Ive met are fantastic people (with maybe one or two exceptions over 30 yrs) and I agree with the sentiments that this post is offensive in some way.

I have only ever met one club pro who I would call Really Arrogant, so I told him what I thought of him and his was and was asked politly to leave his shop!!!

Now he should have taken a chill pill
