Who's going to Captain the next Ryder cup in Paris?

I've got no idea how close Sandy Lyle was to being a possible Captain but he's got no chance now. Pretty much a double whammy, he wouldn't be wanted and he probably wouldn't want it ... unless the pay is good!

Really, he's only 58. Watson nearly won the Open older than that. Good age to be Captain I'd have thought. Even his nemesis enemy Faldo got to do it.

Lyle was considered for the 2014 Captaincy ( was one of 5 candidates) but after some of the stuff he has said especially the bitterness when they picked Monty when he was prob next in line prob didn't do him any favours. He also isn't very active around the tours and with the players which is why they prob will look towards either Lawrie or Bjorn IMO - two people who tick all the boxes.

Out of interest what boxes does Bjorn tick?

Unless it's a pat on the back for chairing the players c'tee for a while I think it's odd he's always bandied around. Lyle has probably missed the boat but should be light years ahead of Bjorn in the pecking order for getting a shot.

Only my view but agree with Val I don't get the love in for Bjorn at all.

Harrington maybe about the right age? Unless they'd prefer him to do a US one maybe.

Completely agree.

From what I have been told Bjorn divides opinion amongst his fellow tour players in pretty much the same way as Clarke.

Obviously no candidate will be liked by all but ideally should, at least, be respected.

I dont think its down to age, its down to the disconnect between the captain and players. Lyle isnt on tour anymore, very much the same issue it is believed that Tom Watson had

Both Bjorn and Lawrie would make excellent captains IMO.

Bjorn is a bit of a 'Buggins turn' and in his ET role has ruffled a few feathers. This should not stop him being chosen though as most of the ruffled feathers would not now be players.

Paul Lawrie whillst a steady player isn't really an inspiring kind of guy I don't think, too quiet/introverted. Bjorn seems more of a hardcase and leader/rabble rouser and would possibly relish some aggro so for me a better choice of the 2 for captain.

Saying that my favourite captain was Langer, authoritative yet calm, seemed to run a perfect ship!

Don't they like to pick someone thats still around the tour and playing, so knows all the players?

I suppose it's going to be Big Tommy, Though Paul might not want to do it.
