Who's been to Vegas?

Whoop only 2 weeks to go, getting slightly excited now 😉
Any tips on what to wear for the wedding out there? I'm guessing it will be seriously scorchio but at the same time we'll be indoors with air con most of the time.
My daughter has suggested just a shirt and trousers, kinda semi smart but still casual.

Air con will be on full blast, could get away with a suit no tie I would've thought...or go all out and go as Elvis.

I got married in vegas in mid July. Early evening ceremony and kept my suit jacket on all night. I was a little bit hot outside on the street, but it's cold enough inside everywhere you can keep it on.

I've been twice but both were brief encounters and need to go back to take a closer look at the place.

Last time I went about 15 years ago and stayed at the Mandalay Bay hotel which was a lovely and vast hotel.

Didn't see much of Vegas to be honest as it was a conference at the hotel with very little time for excursions. Bad idea having a conference at a hotel with 24 hour bars and casinos underneath btw , hardly any of us made the early morning sessions on time and can go through money very quickly. I heard of people in our group maxing out cards and having to borrow money to get through the week.

I got there a day before the conference started and foolishly walked down the strip by myself. I must have looked lost and like an obvious out of towner, within minutes I was approached by a very helpful young lady asking if I wanted some fun😮

A work mate got married whilst there on the work conference! he secretly flew his other half out and sneaked off bought a ring and got Elvis to be his best man. All done in an afternoon.

It's certainly an interesting and must see place and I will go back one day and do a thorough tour of it all. Not sure about in June though as it will be a bit too hot for me.

I'm sure that you will have a great time.

Just looking at booking a tour to the Grand Canyon, reading reviews a lot of people suggest going to the South Rim rather than West Rim. Anyone been to either, what would you recommend?

Not sure I'd recommend one over the other; the impact of the Grand Canyon to me was its sheer size, as in quite literally taking your breath away. What I would recommend is booking a trip that includes a visit to Bryce Canyon as that is absolutely stunning. Whilst the Grand Canyon will have you in awe, once you get over that initial shock it's a big hole in the ground. For me, Bryce Canyon has a beauty that held my interest for much longer, especially the way the colours change with differing lights. The Grand Canyon experience may have changed since we went with the new visitor centre and the glass viewing platform, but offer me one of the two and I'd take Bryce every time.

Well we're back and we thoroughly enjoyed it, it really is a crazy town, the place never seems to sleep.
We somehow managed to be staying there while the EDC Festival weekend was on, insane, full of ravers in mad costumes, a real eye opener that.
We also managed to time it with a heatwave, temps started at low 40's and steadily rose until it peaked at 47.2 degrees on Tuesday which ties the record high for Las Vegas apparently. I'm not a sun bather anyway but it was way too hot to stay in the sun, hence I'm not that brown :D The heat did make walking about through both day and night nigh on impossible, it was just to draining, hence we didn't really explore as much as we would have liked.
Got loads in for a week, went to the Andre Ward fight as tickets were a steal and it was on in the hotel next door.
Grand Canyon South Rim was stunning, I could have stayed there for days admiring the view
Mates wedding was a blast in the Little Chapel place.

If we were to go again, which we're not sure about as we're both glad to be home in a weird way, we'd stay either half way up the strip (we were in the Luxor which meant a longish walk to anywhere of interest or even for some bars/restaurants) or maybe up at Fremont as we really enjoyed it there.

Going for three nights at the start of September, staying in the Luxor. Just looking at what to book ourselves into now.

As a hotel it's fine mate, depends what you're going for I guess. The missus and I like to eat out, try a few bars and do a bit of exploring but you have to go through two or three other hotels to get anywhere like that. The drinks in and around the Luxor are eye wateringly expensive, $6/7 for a bottle of beer, scary prices for a 16oz drink (just short of a pint). Saying that Ri Ra Irish bar in Mandalay Bay (next door) was good with load of beers and live music most nights. The Luxor also seemed to be a dollar more expensive than the Excalibur and New York New York for the same items which as a Yorkshireman stuck in my craw :D

There's a cheap bus called Deuce which runs up and down the strip (and further) every 15 minutes, I'd try that for getting about, $8 for a 24 hour pass which was great value.

We stayed in Ceasars palace and it was an ideal location fo either going up or down the strip. Thought that Freemont street was excellent, would really um and ar about whether to stop down there though.
Did the Cayon via Maverick helicopters and it was fantastic.
Was talking to a guy today who spent a week there on a stag do and he said the last five days were just debaunchery. He said when he got home he hardly got out of his bedroom he was that ripped out. The week after he got back he spent a week in Spain on another stag do.

Well Beezerk, now you're back I'll give my opinion and it's one that may surprise a few.......Me and the Mrs went about 9 years ago and we HATED the place. It's the worst place we've been. Sorry I just don't get the place. To me it's manufactured tack.
We stayed in the Monte Carlo and were there for 5 days, after being in Florida for 9. Admittedly the first day was an eye opener as we travelled down the strip looking at all the themed hotels and going in them. Then reality sunk in and I thought I don't get it, themed hotels like New York, New York where people were getting their photo taken by a Statue of Liberty - why don't you actually go to New York instead.
We don't gamble, so I suppose it's strange going to Vegas. We did see Elton John in concert in Ceasers Palace, which I admit was great and is a nice hotel.
I regret not doing the Grand Canyon, (Mrs had enough of flying )maybe going to the old part. Our flights were Durham Tees Valley to Heathrow. Heathrow to Washingon. Washington to Florida. After 9 days it was then Florida to Los Angela's . Los Angeles to Las Vegas (You can see why she was sick). Return Vegas to Chicago. Chicago to Heathrow then Tees Valley.
I just don't get the place - it does nothing for me. I was expecting it to be amazing, but found it totally fake.
You could say Florida and the theme parks are fake too, as Mickey Mouse doesn't exist. However I know that, but find The parks have a wonderful and enchanting atmosphere, and in addition you can see some fantastic wildlife. I'm amazed by crocodiles and alligators so GatorLand was brilliant, I had to be dragged away. In addition Florida provides excellent restaurants at amazing value. Fantastic designer outlet shopping ie Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger all at a third of the price they are here. There's so much more to do in Florida.
I know this may surprise some people, however that's my take on it and is a place I will certainly not be going back to.

What didn't help w

Jensen your review dosent suprise me, Vegas to me is an adult Disney world. The highlights to me were Freemont street and the Grand Canyon.
we did Vegas, New York and Boston.
Vegas was 9/10 caesars Palace for location was excellent.
New York was 2/10, stayed in Waldorf Astoria and it was a dump. Robbed by employees, couldn't have a dump in the toilet, couldn't use the shower etc etc. Just could not connect with the people of New York. Not the nicest of places I have been to. But some folk love it.
Boston 11/10, loved it, just loved it. The people there are polar opposites of NewYorkers

Yeah I get that Jensen, Vegas is very Marmite.
Although we loved it I'm not sure we'd go back again in a rush. The flight out was awful, loads of early 20's in party mode causing chaos on the plane. Vegas is the personification of greed, it's a very ugly place at the same time as being astounding.
I'd avoid the summer as well, it's just to hot to do anything, I'd consider May, September or October in the future if you still want to sunbathe without being roasted alive. Grand Canyon was worth the holiday alone, what a place.

Forgot to mention Jensen, no wonder Missis J was bogged off with flying. We only did one internal flight between Vegas and New York. It was through American Airlines, talk about economy class, we were in cattle class. The front toilets were broke. No suprise with the size of some on that plane. They probably sat on it. Anyway back toilets only and they were queuing all the way down the aisle to the lavvy. Guess who was 3rd from the back. It's a wonder the plane did not tail dive.
