I've surprised the missus this Xmas by booking a week there in June, I just hope she can get the time off work now 😁
Any do's and don'ts?
Decent/reasonable places to eat, things to see?

It depends on whether or not you're going to gamble - to be honest its the only reason to go. Vegas is at its best at night time, in the daylight you can see beneath the fairly thin veneer of the neon lights. Saying that the interiors of the big name hotels are an incredible example of what architects can do when money is no object. You have to go inside Ceaser's Palace, the Venetian, Bellagio etc.

Plenty of opportunities to shop and eat. For a real experience of old time Vegas and one of the best steaks you'll ever have book a booth at the Golden Steer - a regular haunt of the Rat Pack and their Mafioso buddies.

The fairground rides at the top of the Stratosphere Hotel will test the nerve of the most hardened roller coaster enthusiast.

You have to take an excursion to the Grand Canyon - go for the best trip you can afford, we took a helicopter trip into the canyon and it was worth every penny.

Check out TripAdvisor for more restaurants etc. new ones are opening all the time.

I guess you wont be playing golf, there are some lovely courses in and around Vegas.

The shows are spectacular, we loved the Blue Man Group and the various versions of the Circque de Soleil are amazing entertainment.

You will have fun but its easy to spend a fortune in a week!

Been twice, both times to watch world boxing championships but had plenty of time to do some live firing with a host of weapons, helicopter into the Canyon, a couple of shows, tonnes of shopping, never eaten so well when away with the lads day & night, make sure you look around all the hotels and have a go on the gondolas in the Venetian, all in all there's loads to do without gambling imo

I'd second pretty much all of that. I'd add the following with the disclaimer that it was a little while ago so things may have changed.

Shows are normally closed on Mondays, you might be able to book online from home, if you can I'd look to book now to secure the best seats. The hotels are well worth a look both inside & out and they are well used to guests from other hotels wandering in for a nose. Don't forget the shows outside as well; the pirate fight outside Treasure Island was something else.

If you do a Grand Canyon trip, try to do one that includes Bryce Canyon. The Grand Canyon has an awe factor as one hell of a huge hole in the ground, but Bryce Canyon is stunningly beautiful in a completely different way; if I was going back and could only see one, it would be Bryce.

If you've been to Florida you'll have seen the little brochures being handed out for $2 off crazy golf or a half price breakfast. There were people handing out similar looking brochures in Vegas, which I hoovered up, much to the disgust of passing families. Looking through them later in the room it transpired that they were for, er, adult services…… you may wish to give them a pass ;)

I agree, it's not just about the gambling, I'm not a gambler and Iv been 5 times, only really gambled properly on 2 of the trips. Even if you're not a big gambler there are tables in most hotels to play blackjack for 5 dollars a hand.
The free drink while you're gambling can be a bit hit and miss
Fremont street and the big zip slide is worth a night down.
Do the canyon but deffo don't go on the bus, lay the extra and get the chopper.
Great Mexican on the strip near the Monte Carlo hotel called diablos.
No sure if the pool parties are your thing but we went to Calvin Harris at wet republic and it was a great day out. Should be very hot there in June.
Iv never really done the shows but unless you have something very specific you want to see, just take a wander down the strip during the day, there are quite a few "tickets4tonight" booths selling show tickets half price and things.
The duelling piano bar in New York New York is a good laugh.
Apart from that as has been said to and look at the hotels most of them are stunning, obviously go see the bellagio water show and there's another decent one outside ceasars
Vegas can be as expensive or relatively cheap as you want it to be.

Awesome thanks I can't wait. Not really a gambler but I'll have a dabble on the slots I imagine.
What's the crack for nightlife? I'm not really a clubber anymore, I prefer to see a good live band these days.

Vegas has pretty much everything. At that time of year a gentle stroll down the strip will be very entertaining. Loads of bars with live bands of just about every musical genre. We found a couple of good comedy clubs: Bonkerz and Las Vegas Live. Google is your friend :)

By nightlife do you mean nightclubs? As you're going with the wife it "should" be ok, I found the clubs EXTREMELY picky about who they let in, a group of guys are chancing it. We done the XS club at the wynn and Hakkassan at the MGM. Both are pretty expensive. Tried the bank at the bellagio a couple of times but couldn't get in. We weren't drunk and were all suited and booted. Maybe best to book tickets in advance if you fancy a night on the tiles big name DJ's sell out the clubs quickly.
Can't help you with the live music though, sorry. The only place I seen like a live band was on a stage down in freemont street as I hurtled over the top of them on the zip slide.
Most hotels have bars with singers/musicians on every night though.

It's what it is & what it is it does like nowhere else, but I'd call the greatest place on earth a stretch.
Agree with that, if you're heading over a week 2 or maybe 3 nights is more than enough in Vegas so why not do a bit of road trip out to Hoover dam or through to Colorado or west to California, get a sense of rural desert America?
I was there on a backpacker budget way back in 1991, enjoyed Vegas but was happy to get out too, odd place - tens of thousands of middle to old ages Yanks with 30 yard stares as they pump coins into slot machines.

Went wi Missis T and another couple, loved every minute of it.

Must do, Maverick helicopters for the grand canyon tour. We did the champagne breakfast tour.

Freemont st, that is old town Vegas and we loved it,went back twice, get a taxi down there from the strip. It is the only place where they have the old fashioned slots. It is full of people that would not look outta place on big brother it is freak street.

bus tour around the town. Kills a couple of hours and shows how Vegas is really only a couple of streets.

I'm back over for my 6th time in 4 weeks. Have booked it around the Super Bowl weekend. Also playing a few rounds of golf whilst over there.

the one thing I always tell people that must do whilst over there is go to Freemont Street (downtown). It's incredible.

I love everything about the place you'll have a great time. Just a shame the exchange rate is so bad (dam those of you that voted out)

Go to "batistas hole in the wall" for dinner. Great Italian food and all you can drink wine while your eating. The Irish bar in New York, New York is pretty damn good too. Live music and good old British style food. Gordon Ramseys steak house is pretty good too.

Went a few years ago and loved every minute of the 'theatre 'in the hotels and malls. Only put a few dollars in the slots just to say we had done it.
