he simple answer for you is. - Don't listen[

If you had bothered to read the initial post you would have seen that this was a one off and not something I have done before nor am I likely to repeat.

The cliche that is Motson is harder to avoid as I do watch football on TV but fortunately there is a mute button to protect me.

So have you played or managed at the top level ?

No and that is why I appreciate the opinions of those who have rather than those of some "know all" reporter.

So reporters know nothing about their subject then ?

People offer opinions on everything these days - including us on here and football fans on forums etc

Everyone is entitled to have that opinion

In terms of football - some of the most knowledgable never played to a high level

In other sports such as Horse Racing - Claire Balding is massively knowledgable but also in swimming and wasn't a swimmer

Not many sports journos played sport to any level yet offer opinions based on what they see and have expirenced

Motson has prob forgotten more about the game than some have known - Green has been commentating on games for years - you naturally pick up knowledge as each game passes

To dismiss anyone having an opinion based on what they did is very short sighted.

If we go by your theory then not many of us on here should comment on golf

There are some great non football playing experts out there, football weekly is always worth a listen to.

5live is on the whole very good with some excellent insight, I just cant stand Green!

What great knowledge of football does Motson (or Green) have?

Are they experts on tactics or perhaps they have mastered the techniques required for playing the game? Maybe they are well qualified in applying those techniques in pressure situations where instinct is vital.

Or to assist them in refereeing the games as they do they have, no doubt, completed the referees' courses.

You are entitled to enjoy their commentaries but please don't tell me they are experts as they are not.

As for your last point I think you may well be right.

When you're a Palace fan you learn early on not to listen, especially not to that moron Hansen who has never, in my hearing, had a fair word to say about us!

Hansen wont have had much practice, they only show the Premiership on MOTD. :)

You can't be an expert unless you have played the game - Mourinho.

Ok, I can understand if people don't like Green's style but I'd rather have it than some of the other commentators, if you dont like his style try another radio station.

The worst ones are the "pundits" who don't offer any different "eye" on a goal. They say something like "the winger went down the wing, he crossed it to the far post, then the player nodded it back and the striker put it in". I know that, I just saw it, talk to me about positioning, technique, player movement or something, not just describe what is obvious. Trevor Brooking was a particular bad one for that.

If I remember correctly I think I referred to managing as well as playing at the top level. Also I have made it clear that listening to Green's commentary was a one-off mistake that I certainly do not intend repeating.
