First time on a private course tomorrow ...if i shoot 114 with some very strange shots will i upset the members!?!?!?! :o

I will be polite and know all about course etiquette but the golf will shame me :D

PS i will have a laugh and enjoy it

First round was a private club. Coulsdon Court near Croydon with my old dad and my half set of impala clubs. The score weren't pretty but the thrill of actually being on a proper course was brilliant. Fortunately I got better quite quickly and so it wasn't too much of an issue playing at private clubs. As long as you observe the rules (dress code etc) and keep and eye out for members waiting and call them through if you are holding them up then I don't think there'll be an issue. I'm sure they've got memebrs that can't break 100 anyway

Thanks homer...yes im sure they have and I am well aware of dress code and how to be polite (i was a member at Lacashire cricket club so can play the game) but I am aware that in all walks of life there are always those who think they are better than the rest

Just wondered what its like on a golf course

I think most players have been there, just enjoy.I think other players get upset if youve got no etiquette, and no understanding of the game,so you will be fine im sure.My first time i shot 130 and was absolutely everywhere.

Hey mate, put it out of you mind, it's just a golf course. Enjoy it, play your own game and enjoy. One thing though, don't talk, I don't think scousers are allowed on the course.

Na really though, mentally own the course, you don't need to put any presure on yourself and enjoy those new clubs.

Think i need a new nickname (no suggestions though i can hear them already)....

If i start of like I did on Sunday ill be happy....if not then ill just smile :D

My first time on a proper course was the 7th, 8th & 9th on the East course at East Sussex National. My first full round was on the same course and safe to say I shot well over 100 (off the reds as I was a junior). It was a great experience and I was just happy to be out there. My biggest worry was running out of balls so I had loads in my bag.

I shot about 80 for my first ever time out at a proper golf course, I just played the first 7 holes of Laceby Manor Golf club!

Had a kids summer membership, £25 to play through the summer holidays. I played 7 or 13 holes every other weekend (4,7,13 and 16 all lead back to the clubhouse as well as 18.

a couple of range sessions and a dash round local municipal course at twilight, were all the preparation i had before two rounds at very smart clubs in fuertaventura (one had recently hosted the spanish open i was told) accompanying my father in law on his 70th birthday nearly 3 years ago. The golf (well mine) wasn't pretty but i've been absolutely hooked (& sliced & topped etc) eversince!
The people there were very friendly & encouraging - i would love to go back & do it again as i would be (marginally?!) more relaxed & definitely enjoy it even more!

so my advice would be relax & enjoy it, you will probably think others are more bothered than they actually are

Now thats how to do it :D

I joined my course in September and have played every Sunday but 1 (holiday)that the course was open since. Last Sunday was my first time to break 100, my playing partner still averages about 120 per round, and last Sunday we were joined by a member of 15 years and he only beat me by a couple of shots. Looking at the handicaps at my course there are many 25-28 handicaps, so I would guess that the majority of these don't regularly break 100.
In other words don't worry about they will have seen worse. My mother took up golf in her early forties and on her first round at a private course she scored over 100 for 9 holes!! Within a few years she was playing to 27.

By "private club", do we mean a club that only members and invited guests can play?

If so, mine was at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge, just outside of Seattle.

A special experience for sure. Feels like you're about to play in a PGA tournament.

There's a pyramid of golf balls on the practice ground waiting for you when you warm up, the caddies and clubhouse staff won't let you carry your own bag and the locker room has a lounge with a 50+ inch flat screen tele in it. How the other half live eh!

The course was fantastic and although I don't remember how well I scored...I'm pretty sure it wasn't low!

Their signature hole is "Bear's Canyon"; a horseshoe shaped hole with a massive canyon in the middle. The ultimate risk reward.

The tee is to the left of the photo above. You can either try and drive the green (around 280 yard carry) but don't go off the back into the dense forest!) or play your way safe around the horseshoe. Oh and don't go in the 14ft deep bunker protecting the green at the front

One of the most breathtaking and daunting holes I've ever played (and probably ever will!).

Hopefully I'll get the chance to tackle it again one day if the friends we know are still living in the area when we go over.

first time i did it was aged 11 ish at Perranporth

didnt know what to do where to put it

got lost started playing one hole ended up putting it in another one

i soon got told "thats the wrong hole" (politely tho)

i hate confusing golf courses ;)

as others say abide by the rules dress code etc and dont worry about the golf
everyone has to start somewhere and Has started somewhere
just enjoy

Errrrr i meant that wasnt a muni....no on the other side of the world with forests round it ...show off ;)

Anways .....just done it and shot my best round 109 so very happy....the lesson went well...most of my swing is very natural apart from my setup, my hip movement and my out to in swing hahahaha....
:o

still i know what to look out for on the range now :D

:D I wasn't trying to show off, but that was the first private course I played.

Sounds like the lesson was a massive success though and well done on the PB, I'm sure you'll see the scores tumble as the weather improves and so does your swing.

The dreaded out to in swing is very fixable, I am testament to that. I had a dreadful out to in swing a few months ago and I'm gradually getting shot of it and hitting more draws/hooks than fades and slices now. I actually enjoy hooking the ball at the range, it means I'm doing it (semi) right :D

Keep at it though!

My new setup feels so wrong but what can i say... i have seen about a 7 shot improvment....it may have been luck but will deffo keep trying at the range .....

And i only hit double figures on one whole ....my usual is twice

:D :D :D :D
