I know the ipad is the king of tablets, no argument there but I just want a tablet to take on holiday to watch a few tv programs and listen to a bit of music , connecting to the web where wifi is available. I already have a Kindle and whilst the Kindle Fire is on it's way on the 25th of this month it doesn't come up to scratch for the money in it's reviews. Does anyone have any suggestions for a relatively low priced tablet that'll do the job. Thanks all.

I would wait until the 23rd before making a decision as it is expected that Apple are going to announce a iPad mini which is probably going to come in around the £200 mark, I would expect that to do all the things you mentioned as well as coming in a lot cheaper than the normal iPad

I have an ipad and if I had some cash to burn would be buying the Nexus 7. Beats ipad on the fact it has flash (some can be used for streaming flash sites, something the ipad doesn't do).

Flash is disappearing in favour of HTML 5 which will still leave the iPad the king of all tablets.

Worth considering as it gets great write ups is the asus eee transformer

I bought a 64gb Blackberry Playbook, primarily for watching TV/Movies on the go, storing pictures, listening to music and browsing the web - and it is superb on all fronts - a great bargain at £129

We (the family) have an iPad, an iPod touch, a Motorola Xoom (android 4) and next on the list is a Nexus 7.

The Xoom gets the most use, as it "carries" all sorts of films, music, and photos, some of which (the films) I can't see how we'd ever get on an iPad....

My feeling is that the Samsung is a tad overpriced, the Asus transformer is OK, the Xoom is prehistoric but cheap, the Sony, well it's Sony (and that's not a great thing....)

If I wasn't either looking for something super-portable (Nexus), I guess the Samsung wins by a short margin.

This one.

Galaxy Tab 2 GT-P5110 10.1

+1

Huge amounts of storage and ideal for taking on holiday great price too!

I would be interested in any comments on the Blackberry. I have been looking for a tablet to take on holiday and use around the house. Main uses will be as a e reader (used to take loads of books on holiday but struct baggage allowances have killed that, storing music and photos and also net browsing and emails. At £129 it seems a total bargain and one not to miss (can hardly get a decent Kindle e reader for that).

If I buy one Bob (quite likely) then I am happy to meet you up at your range and you can have a go with it.

I'll take you up on that :)

It does record at full hd but only 30 frames per second so when slowed down will be no better than most hd camcorders.

Thanks Brendy. It would be handier than taking the laptop down to the range all the time. I wonder if I could plug in my camera and use the tablet as a monitor

I've had the Playbook for a year now and it's been superb.

But, I've also got the basic Kindle wi-fi and as an e-reader it blows the Playbook out of the water, especially if you want to read outdoors in bright light.

Kindle's £69 now so they're both cheap as chips.

Google nexus 10 has just been announced too, better screen than the iPad!

Hi Bob - as already answered I doubt it would film swings - you need Rick's camera for that!

I've got one similar to Ricks but it's just the hassle or lugging the laptop down the range with all the cables and it takes time to transfer the videos onto the laptop.
Ill pinch GB72s tablet and have a play with it and see how it goes.
Anyone got Santas address? :)

Bob, does your camera have any form of bluetooth/wireless (some do) as this is the only thing that puts me off binning my pc for a tablet - connectivity of peripherals/printers etc

There is one High speed Casio EX ZR 300 with wifi AND a wide angle lense AND 12.5 zoom AND 16mp AND a 3 in screen AND HDMI connectivity,
but sadly, I dont think Santa will be able to afford it plus it's not available in this country yet. :(

Have an iPad3.. so not really happy they annouced the iPad4 2 months after i got my 3.

The iPad mini is unlikely to get my money.. I think they priced themselves out. More likely to cannibalise the iPad rather than any other tablet.

I am keeping an eye on Microsoft surface, for the money, it give u a full computer + Keyboard + USB + Office. But more like a PC replacement at the price point

At the lower end, toss up between the Nexus 7, Kindle HD, Samsung Galaxy.

Kindle Fire HD may fall out of contention as it does not have a camera. So no luck with it at the range. Though might give it Jr

Nexus 7 has a front facing camera. So not the best one if you want to shoot others at the range.

Galaxy Tab 7 has a back camera, so may be an option.

Have heard good things about the Playbook, but as a Blackberry user at work, not sure of the BB ecosystem - slowly many good apps are available only on Apple or Google as developers shun the BB platform. For that reason the Playbook falls off the list.

So overall not much choice if you want to look beyond the Jesus Pad.
