where to play in cheshire?

If you can get on I would look to play at Mere which is just off the A556 if you come off the M6 at J19 and head towards Manchester. Nice parkland course that I think they have used for open qualifying

MERE is a top track but there is at least 4 other courses within your range go on a golf course directory and pick one you like the look of.

How's Wychwood park playing at the moment Jason? I'm looking at booking a 4 ball there in the next month or so as I've heard nothing but glowing reviews from people who have played there.

Not played there for a couple of weeks, but believe it is good at the moment. I think they are doing some work on the course at the moment such as improving bunkers etc, so give it a month and it should be great.

I've always liked Portal which is only about 15mins from Nantwich but the championship course has gone downhill a bit since they opened the hotel on site
Still worth a trip though.

A lot of my colleagues rave about Delamere! Portal is a great resort. It has 2 courses, the Championship and the Premier. I actually prefer the Premier! SOme lovely Par 3's. These are closer than Mere as well!

Both courses at Portal used to be good but the set up is losing money badly I believe. A few times they have shut down the hotel because they had not one booking. So the standard of both courses have dropped dramatically. I would play one of the others.

Never knew that! Thats a shame! Sign of the times I guess.......

It's maybe a bit far out but the de Vere at Mottram Hall is a class course. It's on the outskirts of Manchester near Prestbury/Wilmslow which is Footballers country, lots of big premiership players live around there

A couple of years ago, they went through a cost cutting exercise and one of the things they did was decide to have one head greenkeeper instead one on each course, so both were told to apply for the position and they also put it out there for anyone to apply. So I believe one guy is now overseeing both courses and the 9 holes, with the previous budget of one the courses being now used to cover all 45 holes.

A lot of us migrated en-mass from Portal to Vale Royal Abbey.

The views from the premier course are fantastic and it was a really beautiful course.

I wouldn't play there if it was free golf now...

Cheers

Steve...

Got 3 days worth of Golf in May for my bro in laws stag. 11 of us going, bit worried now about Portal. Is it that bad or would it be ok for high handicappers like myself? Heard good things about it which is why we booked it. Stayed in Mcdonald hotels before and they've always been really good.
