When Will People learn to shout - FORE.

Now that I do find strange as the first thing I do is to cover my head and eyes with an arm, turning away from the general direction I believe the call came from
 
I played Upchurch on Saturday and i agree the layout is dangerous i managed to survive, but because of the big dips and blind shots it was something of a lottery. Saying that i didn't mind the greens.

Think think the weather may have contributed to the greens and looked like a heard of wilderbeast had been through, nice weather 10 x the amount of traffic, they were very worn around the holes when we played them midday sunday.

But yes the layout is very dangerous, can barely see where your going even on the par 3's, I think it was the 11th watch your tee short, once its out there just hope its on the line you hit it as can barely see top of the pin.
 
I struggled with the blind shots i prefer seeing the hole in front of me and as i had never played before really struggled with what club to take. The one hole I could see the whole hole was my best driving hole. The first time i have ever wanted a Skycaddie, just so i can see the hole. :)

If he was strimming it would have been pointless shouting as he would not have heard.

I am in the lining my shot up for the middle of the range look at my target, back to ball, to the target, back to my ball swing and hit it. Look up and see a guy in the middle of the range taking a shot he had smashed about 60 yds wide from the 15th. I will admit to not shouting fore as his mate appears from the trees and runs onto the range and takes his shot as well. I was speechless at first of all two very bad shots but more than the the stupidity of running onto the range to take a shot.

Perhaps they lost their balls and thought they'd "borrow" one from the range?? That said, if they were hitting their balls - how on earth did they find their balls with all the other balls presumably on the range, unless they were really lucky and the little tractor had just been out!!
 
Seem to remember Redhill & Reigate being similar with a load of cross over holes and similar gauntlet runs. Never enjoyed it as you were always keeping one eye out for incoming. I alway shout. Just the way I have been brought up. Having been hit it isn't fun. I tend to instinctively duck my head and bring my arms up and wait
 
The first time I played my course during the working week, the chaps were out digging the bunkers, cutting the grass on the slopes etc. Anyway I just could not hit a ball anywhere near them, I couldnt bring myself to do it. They were so used to it they thought nothing off it, they werent even wearing hard hats.
 
Mark_G, had something similar yesterday as I played through by a group of guys I knew. One guy stood very close to the landing zone on the left hand side of the fairway while the others waited 20 yards or so further left. This really affected me and I ended up with a push to the right as I couldn't bring myself to finish the swing. He's done this kind of thing to me before so either he must have great confidence in my ability or he thinks I've got money to pay out in a law suit. If it's the latter he's sadly mistaken

no the practise balls, like many places now are all yellow and they were using white balls. Was just a shock to look up and see 2 people on the range. Luckily I weas using my PW and they were on about 150 yards. If I had been practising my 5 iron though they would have been fair game.
 
2 juvies from my old course were playing behind us and were not waiting till we were out of range before hitting shots, after the 3rd time a ball came wizzing past my ear cause me to lose balance as i tried to get out of the way and landed on my wrist and broke it, when people dont call fore i make sure they know about it

a local 9 hole i frequent a lot, brilliant course excellent drainage and has hire buggies, anyway some fella managed to hook his tee shot so bad he missed his fair way, missed the previous fairway and hit our buggy, so i waited for home to come looking for his ball, i stood beside it waiting on an appology, he walked towards us, saw his ball and walked off, not even the decency to say sorry! if i i hit a wayward shot i call fore and the direction, then when i see them closer ill go and say sorry aswell as i know all to well how scary it is to be hit my a ball

Its now 4.5 weeks since I was smacked full on the cheek, and had my ride in the Air Ambulance. My cheek still bleeds when I clean my teeth, and is numb from nerve damage.

A shout of FORE would have seen me turn away and cover my head. Previously I would have a gentle word with anyone who doesn't shout but more recently I seem to be a little sarcastic for some reason.

Last year when i was still a complete novice i topped a shot on the range with my driver. it flew out at about knee height and travelled about 50 yards before hitting the metal ring around a "basket" that you can aim chips into. The impact was so true it came back at pretty much the same speed of the outward journey and flew into another bay about 15 yards to my left and just missed a young lad. there was a bit of a stunned silence as i was the only person on the range who knew why a ball came back into the bays at such pace before i apologised and explained my million to 1 shot that hit a 1 inch target 50 yards away and came back with interest. Will never be that accurate again.
