I went along to Woburn meet yesterday and endured the worst 2 rounds of my life. I probably only hit about a dozen good shots all day.
standing in the tee I had no idea what I was doing or where the ball was going to end and it was the same on the fairway.
i took divots that could've returfed Wembley in 1 go or thinned it!
i was close the snapping every club in my bag or throwing them in a pond

Whoa maestro don't panic. I have seen you play James. It's a blip. Your swing and sequence I expect was out of kilter. Bad place for it to happen, granted, but you will come back

What a depressing thread, let's be honest nobody wants to hear about bad rounds of golf. Bit of advice, forget about them and do your best on the next shot. Itl do you the world of good. Bit of Dr. Bob required I think

Fear not. I gave up in the Sunday roll up the other week after 11. I was crap, getting narked and on the verge of spoiling it for my partners. When the fun stops. Stop. So I did. Not proud but there you go so I share your pain. Plenty of worse places than Woburn to chop it around

Everyone has bad days, but that doesn't mean they are bad golfers. And it happens to the best.

Have a look at the scores returned at any pro tournament, but start from the bottom of the score board. You'll be amazed at who you'll see down the bottom. Everyone has rubbish days. Forget it.

On another note- I don't understand folk that realise after a few holes that they can't swing and can't do anything about their game. Surely you have one go-to shot that would enable you to get around a course? For me I put the ball way back in my stance and punch the ball around the course. Yeah, I'll shoot 10 over my handicap but I'll still enjoy my day.

My swing felt fine
I went to hitting irons off the tee but then buggered up my second shot.
i was standing over the ball and had no idea where it was going to go!
normally my 3 wood is my safety net off the tee but even that was on the naughty step

Probebly felt worse by the the fact you we're playing Woburn, pity you didn't play well on the day and must be so frustrating, but we all have bad days I'm sure you'll come again.

I had a horror round the other week 17 points in our winter comp. still glad to be out playing and knew there would be better days.

Nah then Homer I remember that post very well. Any other day I would of had to change me pants through laughing. but I remember I had the same round on the same day and it was not so funny after all.
Have you played since and it went well,OK, dire, brilliant. I have played since and been not bad.
Point is, everyone has those days, they normally come when you least expect them, normally when you have been playing well and expect to smash it up but end up going the other way.
re OP, I wouldn't beat myself up, we have all had them, some of us are just a bit more honest about it than others.
What has probably compounded it was the place you were playing.

Played since. Nothing spectacular but got it round without any sign of a meltdown. Some good, some bad and the short game still an issue (including linear) although haven't really worked on it in a while so that's my focus now.

Do you think you were trying too hard, because if where you were and how much you had looked forward to it

Sometimes when I'm having a shocker of a round and I know any sort of score is out of the question, I just start using the round to try different shots, or use it to try and ingrain current swing thoughts.

I feel for you buddy.
I've developed the wedge shanks over the last couple of weeks. They've come out of nowhere and I've never done this before. I think I am standing too close to the ball, swinging on the inside and hitting it on the hosel. It's making me go insane. But at least I have only been doing it at the range and when I played by myself yesterday.

Don't let it get you down. Your game is still in there somewhere. I am also just hoping to find my previous form and get rid of the dreaded wedge shanks.

For me I find slowing everything down helps - especially with the tempo between backswing and downswing ! That said it doesn't always work !!

Trying to see the funny side can improve the mood

If you have a bad round/day....forget it!
If you have a 2nd bad round/day....check your setup/GASP
If you have a 3rd bad round/day...see a Pro!

I played Saturday and Sunday...9 hole Stableford Scores 8, 14 then 17, 17! TFG!
