When do you give up on a round?

Never walk because of the golf. Had a nightmare out in 51 yesterday. Got my head together and came back in 39. Had I have walked after 9, I would have finished with negative thoughts. Instead I felt a massive achievement pulling that round back.

Only walked off once at my old club because of how slow it was. Whole group canned it and we were scoring ok.

Never chuck it in really, last year in a medal I was +7 after 7 holes and played the rest level par for a wee cut.

I just enjoy playing golf tbh, if I'm playing rubbish it doesn't make me want to walk off, just tends to make me laugh at myself more than normal!!

Depends on the mindset of individuals.

5.5 hour rounds = waste of time & frustration OR longer out in the fresh air
Poor score = bad weekend or opportunity to relax more and try some Seve stuff

Always stick it out as playing golf badly is better than not at all in my opinion. Have been in the company of people who have walked off and never had a problem with it as if that is how they are feeling who am I to judge them, it's meant to be enjoyable after all. Once saw someone walk in after an arguement over someone else using a yellow ball other than him, as if he has exclusive rights to yellow balls! Now that was pathetic.

once the score has gone, the rest of the round is a practice round to sort out issues and be ready for the next game when I'll not only beat handicap, but par as well and maybe nab the course record.

/well, a man can dream :D

Only walked once n that was cos I was being made to feel uncomfortable by the other players (I was havin a rite "mare" and the expression on their faces said it all) so I bagged up and walked in off the 4th tee, had a player walk away from us on the 11th on Friday afternoon but he'd been disastrous from the "1st tee" (7's and 8's on PAR 3's and 4's) so we couldn't blame the poor chap and it wasn't a comp or anything so didn't mind, we just carried on and I put my first official scorecard in for me handicap !...

Ive walked in as a group a couple of times due to us getting soaked all the way round.
But when the game is rock bottom I want to find I why, i can't do that sat in the clubhouse.
Theres nothing worse than driving home with the game in tatters.

I've walked off many times due to slow play. I play golf to enjoy myself and limping round the course in 5 hours due to a load of inconsiderate idiots in front of me is NOT enjoyment.

I really don't get this attitude that you MUST carry on regardless. If you are chopping it round, holding people up, ruining it for others just so you can hand in a card for a nett 95, what is that all about??

Today..... I was playing steady, 16 points from 7 holes.... Cue 5, yes 5 blobs in a row. Stuck out the round. Kept smiling through gritted teeth as well.....

Didn't walk off but went and sat on a bench and calmed down a bit while my playing partners completed the hole. I need to stop trying to fix my swing on the course and just accept it was a bad shot

I would only actually walk off due to injury/illness/emergency. That said if it ever gets to the point that my poor play is affecting my playing partners then I would have no hesitation in jacking the round, but I would still walk round doing cards, attending flagsticks etc. Just walking off in a huff is hugely disrespectful.

Fortnight ago played in possible the worst conditions I have ever faced.

Came in with 23 points but never though of quitting - finishing became my target.

And because of the conditions I still didn't get a +0.1 :)

Walked in when my back went but other than that, stay out, keep marking the PP's card and don't turn into a grumpy old sod and ruin it for everyone else. I had a shocker in the bogey comp last week (-12) but in my defence I wasn't feeling my chipper best and struggling to walk round and swing. However it was a fantastic three ball and the others were struggling too and we were all just having a laugh.

I try my best and if the buffer zone has been blown by the 9th I'll set a series of goals for the nine or maybe the next set of three holes and try and get whatever I can from a round.

Even if I'm playing poorly I don't think I'd walk in. I'm not competitive enough to forget that I play this game for enjoyment. If I'm playing badly I enjoy the fresh air, maybe the sunshine and being outdoors after having worked indoors all week long. Even if the golf isn't great I'm still getting all that and some peace and quiet away from home life :)

Always play on, I've only walked in if the course has become unplayable due to weather.

No matter how bad I'm playing I'll always complete a round in a comp, i may have a rant and a rave at myself but I won't let the course beat me that bad I quit.

There's always the chance you will hit that one perfect shot or play one hole really well that keeps you coming back.

I've only walked off once because of playing rubbish. (Did walk off after 9 holes on a golf day but the weather was truly appalling and most others did the same) Was playing the Park course at Cams Hall and had shot 28 for the first 4 holes, one of which was a par 3. I was on my own though.

These days if i start badly or the round's gone to pot i just keep going and try and rack up some pars and the odd birdie.

I nearly walked in from a medal about a year ago this month. Playing our 9th I was in the middle of fairway off my drive with a straightforward 8i to the green. 11 shots later the ball was in the hole after 2 putts, 1 unplayable drop and 8 s***s (in a row). I was in total despair as previous 8 holes had not been dissimilar. But 9th was the nadir. Took some encouragement from my PPs to keep me going - but I did.

I am a fighter, and always try to get the best score I can. Todays comp I had 10 points after 8 holes, and was still off the green in two on our par 3 nineth. Nice little chip in for par, and 19 points on the back nine for a respectable 31 points. Nice to finish with some good holes, to encourage me back for more.

A fighting 96 nett 91 today, had it been raining as well might have been tempted after 9 but then that would have been the first time I've walked off a comp.

I too am a fighter - and would tell you that I'd never give in - but faced with the utter despair I was in and a further 9 holes of miserable horrors - I really struggled to face going on. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, in golf like the misery that continual s****ing does to you
