When can you drop a ball out of a bunker ..?

If the unplayable ball is in a bunker, the player may proceed under Clause a, b or c. If he elects to proceed under Clause b or c, a ball must be dropped in the bunker.

In normal circumstances, your absolutely right, but.....
I believe the relief is being taken from the water, not the bunker so he can drop behind the bunker as far back as he/she wants

See where you're coming from there Bob, I was treating it as unplayable rather than as in an abnormal ground condition. 25-1b (ii)(a) or (b)

Simple really, just don't put it in a bunker in the first place ;)

And there's another rule that doesn't show much consistency.
If you're in a pond/ditch (water hazard) you can play from the previous place, drop outside in line with the flag or take a 2 clublength drop.
If you're in a bunker(another hazard!) you can't drop back in line or take the 2 clublength drop unless you stay in the bunker, only drop where you last played from.

Why?

What's the difference?

If you're in a water hazard (not always actually in the water) you can drop outside under penalty. Why can't you drop outside a bunker under penalty?

Can't see the logic there..............

After all, they're both hazards.
