Got to be the Open Championship as I can watch full coverage of all four days for free (at the moment). The Masters is the most visually stunning but I always get the impression it is run by a bunch of nasty little bigots.

The Open for me - it has a special unique atmosphere and associate it with summer holidays and time out of work. The courses are also more accessible making it possible for ordinary golfers to play their favourite venue. The same could not be said of Augusta.

The Open for me. It's played on the most interesting and historic courses and the wind and weather can make it so no 2 days are the same. I therefore think it is the most interesting to watch and provides the best all round test of a golfer's ability. Players have to use their imagination to "see" and manufacture shots. And I don't have to stay awake into the wee small hours to see the finish.

Honest question: in the past 10 years how many Major winners have been ranked outside the top 50?

Good point but the Opens and the PGA have large fields so more chance of somone breaking through...
Don't get me wrong, the Masters is fantastic but being played on the same turf every yearmakes it easier to get to know the course and experience tends to win.
I've always loved The Masters but you don 't often get the Fairytale "Darren Clarke" type win...

I like the masters, its the season opener and is always played on a course that looks great on the TV, plus we can all dream but know that we are never likely to play Augusta. They even seem to be able to limit that American moron shouting 'get in the hole'.

The Open for me. The oldest and best, played on proper courses and it's 'ours'. For getting the juices going though as a season opener, the Masters is the perfect way to warm me up for the season.

Thanks for the replies. I knew it would be a straight race between the Masters and the Open, but expected the Open to be the most popular... which it is if you were to count the replies (24 for the Open, 17 for the Masters) and not the poll.

Masters for me as even though I didn't play when I was younger I used to get to stay up and watch it with my dad and my brother. My earliest golfing memories are Nick Faldo v Greg Norman coming down the stretch in 96 and Mark O'Meara winning. I love the fact it's on the same course and now that I play it signifies the start of my season.

After that I'd say if then go for the PGA simply because it the first time as an adult I watched 4 straight days golf when Kaymer won and that's what got me actually playing the game. I'm going to be lynched for this bit the Open is actually my least favourite of the 4 events the few I have watched just haven't captured my imagination and the BBC commentators don't help.

I am almost ashamed to say I have gone for the Masters. I want to say the Open, but the Masters signals the beginning of the season and all the hope that brings with it. I love the look of Augusta. I do always wonder what people from around the world think when they see the bare grass of the links courses when they watch the overhead shots on TV from the Open. It is so much better at ground level. I love the fast undulating greens of Augusta and the fact that it is manicured to an inch of it's life. As I once read, "there is something special about the breeze snapping through the pines at Augusta in April".
