What's in the bag?

Never tried a chipper but I don't really see the problem with them. The aim of the game is to get the little white ball into the hole in as few shots as possible,if this helps then why not?

Good idea can you use a pool
cue on the green?

Hi all, I keep chopping and changing the selection of the clubs in my bag! I've now gone driver, 3 + 5 woods, recovery club, 5-9 irons, pw, sw, 54 lob wedge, putter. Can't make my mind up on 64 lob wedge or a chipper club? What's people views on the chipper club? What's in your bag?

I assuming that the fact you have an SW and a 54* you are pretty new to the game? As said I'd look at that first. Wouldn't even consider a 64* unless you are good with wedges.

As for the chipper. If you've played the game for years and develop a problem with chipping then try one by all means. Just make sure it is legal and not one of those double sided non-conforming boyos that are available everywhere. I got my dad one after he took the chipping yips. Gave him a little confidence back and increased his enjoyment of the game.

I newer to the game or at least willing to put some time into practice then just learn to use the rest of your clubs for chipping rather than wasting a space.

My bag currently:
Cobra Amp Cell Driver and 3W
MD Seve Icon 21&24* hybrids.
Razr X 5-PW
48*/54*/60* MD wedges.
Mizuno MP T 102 putter.

The problem with a chipper is a lot of people dive for this club when around the greens and fail to read the situation/conditions/greens and choose a club to suit accordingly,

Creativity around the greens can mean anything from a 60* wedge down to a 2h/17* hybrid...... Don't fall into the narrow minded trap that is a chipper.

I'm okay around the greens with my wedges, but just thought it might be easier with a chipper. I normally chip on with an 8 iron. But in practice found a holed more from off the green with a chipper? My handicap is 20, but haven't played a comp for a few months but normal shoot mid 80's.

If your shooting mid 80's your already playing better golf than your hc suggests

if you regularly leak shots around the green a chipper might not be a bad idea.

you can play a variety of shots with a chipper. just use more shaft lean to reduce the loft. if you need to go over something use your sand wedge.

if you take more than 3 shots from less than 20 yards from a the green multiple times a round then a chipper should help. what is really needed is practice. a chipper isn't a magic club. its just easier than a regular iron.

That's a fair point.
