You're playing in an open medal singles competition around a course you've never played before. You get to the 3rd hole which is straight, no OOB, hazards and just a small bunker left of the green.

How would you play it and what score would you be happy with?

Take the stupid doggy headcover off my driver and give it a smash with the intention of finding the right side of the fairway.

As long as my drive has gone 230yds, then I'd go for the green. My natural shot is left to right so I'd aim at the right hand edge of the front left bunker and favour bailing out right for an easier up and down if necessary.

Chalk me up for a par 4 and I'll sprint to the next tee.

I would...... Drop a ball on the tee box not bothering to tee it up, muscle a 6 iron to the back left pin position, 1 putt and walk to the 4th hole happy I have made amends for my certain double on the 2nd.....

;)

at 485 id spank a drive down the left side of the short stuff (as i play with a draw) and this would leave me about 180 in which would be a very easy 7 wood playing away from the bunker as its on the left...

simple.

Infact scrap that, driver, 6 iron short of the bunker to avoid trouble, vokey chip and 2 easy puts for a par,

485 is just long enough to be a par 5 so it still should be a fairly straight forward 4 Driver 5 iron ish as there are no hazards, its not the 3rd at Augsta or St Andrews its not Pebble beach hmmm

If I am not sure I hit my trusty 5 wood, follwed by prob 5 or six iron leaving a pitch to the green. This should give me an easy 5 its its a par 5 or an easy bogey on a par 4. As its stroke index 3 I get a shot so for a net par. If either of the 1st putts roll in then jobs a good un.

Driver, chip out sideways from trees (there will be some within range), 5 iron, shank to right of green, thin across green trying not to shank, chip on, 3 putts, down for 9.

Is there any other way?

Seeing as it is a really windy day when I am playing this, and fortunatly the wind is behind I'd drive probably into the right rough, but dry conditions mean the drive was 280.

Hybrid would be pulled 180 to the left. Chip over the back of the green, underhit chip and run would leave me on the fringe.

New found putting ability would get me down in 2 (old style putting ability would mean another four to get down)

So probably 6 or 8 for me!

i would play it as a par 5 if it was one.

and would play it as a par 5 if it was a 4.

Depending on conditions and how i have been striking the ball though

So whether the hole is a par 4 or a par 5 you would play it the same way? :)

I'd be looking for a 4, whether it is a par 4 or 5.

Try to get a good drive away and judge the second shot when I get to it. If the green is reasonably open, and a missed green not a disaster, then a fairway wood. hybrid or long iron depending on distance, to try and get on in 2. If there was a pond to the left side of the green, say, might lay up 30 or 40 yards short and chip and putt.
