What were your first clubs

My first clubs were a bag of mixed clubs, some old, some really old !

I bought a second hand set of Greentree Irons in the mid 70s. They were the must have irons at the time for me and my mates.

The first set of brand new irons I ever bought were Browning Automatics (circa 1984) They lasted until I was seduced by the Letters Calculus model around 1990.

Been through a few since then as well ;)

My first club was a cut down 6 iron that the local pro made for me. I used this club in the park next to my house. When my Dad played, he'd slip it into his bag and then, when we were out of sight of the clubhouse, give me a ball and let me play a few holes.

My first set of clubs were a miss-mash of hickory shafted clubs in a musty old bag. They were rubbish!

My first set of brand new clubs were Wilson Patty Bergs ladies clubs. I loved these and I could hit the persimmon woods a country mile. The clubs got nicked out of my locker! Gutted!

Mine were old Tommy Armour blades with steel shafts covered with some plastic type laminate to make them look wooden, they were a gift from my boss at the time, sure he hated me.
Pain in the ass to hit well but great feeling when you did.

Progressed if thats the right word to a Full set of Howsen Hippo's :o, still in the shed as they are the first anniversary gift from the wife and I'm not allowed to chuck them out :D

Had a cut down 7 iron blade made by clubmaker in Shrewsbury, and a putter made by my cousin at school [metalwork].
Used them both on the local pitch and putt.

I had some Mcgregor blades, I cannot recall the model but they did have a see through Mcgregor button in the top of the grip which looked nice.

Mine were a set of Wilson gear effects and a Progen 3 wood. I've still got the irons but the head of the 3 wood went about 100 yards up a driving range leaving me with a shaft in my hands. I broke the shaft in half to fit it in the wheelie bin. It took some effort though, it was amazing how strong it was.

I had a full set of Arnold Palmer plastic clubs in the 60's.
Just seen one for sale on ebay for £60!! :o

My first clubs were all mismatched, bought when I had the cash and what was a bargain at that time.

Swingweight etc. who cares? The enthusism of youth!

Bought a set of clubs from the local pro on a Friday and as I was playing a match on the Monday, asked could I have them back on that day if he had not sold them if the new ones did not perform well by then.

Well I am sure you already have guessed what comes next - Played with the old clubs on the Monday night and played the best round of golf I have ever played.

I believe that this was their way of getting back at me for off loading them after all the years together.

my first set were these as well in a lovely green colour. Gave them to a mate who still uses them and still rate them as a decent starter set
