Amazed at how equipment has changed over the years, I`d be interested to hear what golf clubs members here first used.

My first clubs were aquired in the late sixties, Me and a couple of pals were given four clubs each from some workers at Craigton Golf, Craigton, Glasgow. Factory was next to our primary school. They were actually imperfects that had returned from the nearby chrome works .The workers put on cut down shafts and grips. They were 5,7,8 & Niblick, Got a 2nd hand putter from J. Crowley & son, Centre weight, Rustless Putter with 9* loft. (God knows why its got that Loft) Still got the putter head.
We played at nearby Pitch & Putt,in Bellahouston park, Glasgow. at every oportunity.
Those clubs and todays are just miles apart. But you could still have some great scores.

What were your first clubs.

Although I'm not too old, the first clubs I ever used as a wee boy were a couple of hickory shafted irons, they were followed by a set of dimple faced irons with "wood effect" steel shafts. These were followed in the mid 60s with a half set of Forgan Forged irons (Even numbers, my brother had the odd numbers)and then a set of Titleist DTRs which I bought new in the early 80s. These have only now been replaced last week with a set of AP2s.

I had a brand new set of Ram "Tom Watson" irons and woods. Don't know exactly what model they were now, but looked nice in the shop window!
Didn't keep 'em too long if I remember rightly

A half set of forged blades by Wilson Staff. A TP Mills putter, and 5 3 and 1 persimmon wilson woods with heads like cotton reels. Played off 18 the first time I played with them.

1/2 set of Slazenger Challenge irons and woods. First full set was 1,3,5 and 3-sw irons by Howson - the DJ100 range. Good enough to get me to 12 handicap!

Range Masters half set, really cheap blades and soooo heavy - made me swing smoothly though.

Mine were my grans old clubs!

Mish mash of God knows what, but boy did I have fun with these!

I had a full set of Howson Hunters, woods & irons bought for £95 off ebay!!!

Horrible bloody things they were but they served their purpose, they got me hooked on the beautiful game!

A half set of Slazenger Johnny Miller Californian clubs. Couldn't hit the driver to save my life, so only ever used the 3 wood, along with 5,7,9 and wedge. Cost me £65 from Argos back about 1984 ish if I remember correctly.
