I am yet to be convinced that anyone over a 10 handicap needs to use any sort of "premium" ball (10 being chosen arbitrarily, maybe even lower than that)
I think need is a strong word when it comes to golf balls. Of course you can play whichever ball you like and they have slightly different characteristics. I do think that mid to high handicappers with slow swings playing ProV1s just because the advert says they're the best are probably doing their game more harm than good, since there's zero benefit to that level of player playing that ball. They'd get more distance from a softer ball and probably don't need anywhere near that much spin.

One of my lessons in the summer my pro showed me on gc quad that I create too much spin with driver , switched to a lower spin head .. he also said if I used pro v 1s I would benefit less due to my too much spin

i have a friend who's a 28 handicapper but plays the ProV1 as he likes how it spins on the greens.

I understand the spin argument, but doesn’t the chart earlier in this thread suggest for absolute distance the soft balls are worse? With Supersofts bottom of the list?

I don't know, because it varies by swing speed anyway.
I asked this and the reply I got was that this was done at 85, 100 and 115.

Having just thought about this, I am believing a reply I got on a golf forum and now relaying it as the truth - so not necessarily gospel.

You are possibly right but what I would suggest is that everyone finds a ball they like and sticks with it rather than just use anything they find.

I don't know what it is, but for some reason I hate Pro V's and nothing to do with price (although that is absurd as well). Unlike any other premium golf ball, I don't feel any more positives in ball striking. But mainly, I hate the way they feel when putting. For some reason, it almost feels like I'm putting with a Top Flight

I've never liked putting with a ProV1. I have found the AVX is the best ball I've played with for years and I play it all year round.
That said, I found 3 Mizuno RBs or something that are allegedly low spin, so am trying them this weekend.

are they anti slice as well?

Hopefully @Swango1980 won't mind if I ask a slightly off topic Q

With an equal putting stroke; Do matte finish balls roll a shorter distance than a shiny equivalent?

I've been buying Pro V1's off Market Place when I spot the newer version on there, got 24 for £20 my last purchase, all 2021 or 23 model.
I also got half a dozen free out of the HSBC hospitality during the week at The Open, free drink, goodie bag with a ball every time.

I like the AVX too. My pro shop said it was dropping in price next year leaving just the pro Vs as the premium Titleist ball.

Why are balls in a box of three no longer individually wrapped in a paper ? Even premium balls dont seem to have it.
