Hi , new poster here. I have had an ok year this year golf wise, final event yesterday.
Looking back I won one singles cup(strokeplay), 1 doubles cup(foursomes) and a texas scramble yesterday. I also had one runner up in a doubles(fourball).
My questions are who had a great year and has no space left on their mantelpiece and if you did what was the key to your success?

Have hardly played in any comps this year but have won the April & June Medals, the latter getting me a place in the county handicap cup final which was brilliant to play in. Reached the semi's in the matchplay. In pairs events, won the Greensomes Cup, runners up in the Foursomes trophy and semi finalists in the knockout. Handicap down from 20 to 16, played loads of new courses so all in all a good golfing year. :)

Bit of a mixed bag this year.
Started off winning best gross at the first back stick competition of the year then did nothing for 5 months then came 3rd,2nd then 1st in the final three outings of my old works massive society and won layer of the year with a lovely old silver rose bowl.
The middle of the year, best weather too!, was really poor where I was changing and trying to get used to a more fingery grip which seems to be paying dividends now but cost me 2 shots this year.

Brendy,See you're playing a Srixon 506 driver - wondered what you thought of it - they're going quite cheap now and I have to admit I've been tempted. Did you play it with the Srixon shaft before you had the UST shaft fitted?

Had a good year.Won 2 medals.Won captains Day (individual comp) Won Presidents day (pairs) Won secretaries (pairs Knockout Comp) These 3 comps are all Honours board.Finished Runners up in commitee targe (pairs). Have been cut to 9.4
Started the year on 13.2 so all in all a very good year. Will be an expensive evening in november at the presentation as captains, presidents, secretaries, have to be filled with mixtures of alcohol.Tradition so im told lol.

pingpal, no It was a tour model made specially for our clubs assistant pro, one inch shorter at the hozzle end (an already stiff shat made a little stiffer but not unbareable), I had to get it lengthened at the grip end as im a little taller than peter but the ball goes off a dream, no ott noises or gadgets either, just a well made driver.

Hi Pingpal. last year I had a great year or so I thought. I bettered it this year. Last year I won 2 trophies the medal finals and golfer of the year. This year I bettered it. I won our club championship (1 over for 2 rounds)plus I won our summer matchplay (does this mean I'm an all rounder lol)and I'm also in the medal finals again. I have 2 lovely trophies to pick up so fay and I could have another 1 yet to come. watch this space !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A good first year back after a gap of several years. Won my division in a monthly medal, won a monthly stableford and a couple of 2nd and 3rds.

As I was not eligible to enter a lot of competitions (hadn't put enough cards in to qualify) and did not get my official handicap until April (course closed or reduced to 9 holes prevented me getting any cards in) I was actually more pleased with a 7th place finish in the order of merit for the year

Happy golfing

Homer

Hi pingpal,
I had a great year......started playing again!
As for trophies....um.....one for karting with the boys from work, and a medal for being runner up in a snooker comp.
Sound like you've been busy.....well done!

Have had a good first year of golf, as a junior member i can't play in the mens comps so play in the junior section of competitions(about 15 of us play) this year i won the club championship best nett+gross, Orange cup, Chairman's cup and the county greensomes tournament. I have also gotten into the junior team. my handicap has gone from 24 to 15. Not that bad a year.. wish i had more chances to get my handicap down over the winter so i can shut up my mates with low handicaps.

Hi Lloydy,Well done onyour achievements for the year.Keep playing the way you are and you will soon chop the handicap down.Even though the weather is gonna turn against us for a few months get out as much as you can.Your game will benefit in the long run.

I've been playing alot of golf with juniors this year and all they talk about is how far they can hit a ball off the tee and how much their handicap can come down. I dont want to sound an old fart (40) but whenever I was a junior we where tought how to play alot of shots. U know the old saying swing for show and putt for doah. These guys today unfortunately just want to rip it 500 yards and forget about the other shots. I cant see the point in ripping it if you can't putt from 6 feet!!!!Play with-in urself and your handicap with come down, it took my years to understand that advice!!! :p

Thanks tpred, clubchamp07 that's good advice. btw well done with your achievements this year and good luck in the medal finals. I know what you mean, ive played with juniors who are like those you mentioned, i went through a stage where i tried to hit the ball too far, i was neglecting putting. i used to be most satisfied with hitting a 300 yrd drive, but now i most enjoy hitting the short game pitches. i recently got a putting lesson and already much improved.

Hey, you and me both.
I played with some juniors the other day, they were terrible around the greens, 2 chips, 3 putts.....what's up with that then?
They had great swings but play like donkeys.....
