At the moment I have a 40-50 yard gap in my set up..

Have a 4 iron that carries around 195-200 and a 3 wood that goes 240-250.

I have tried many a hybrid but they just dont feel comfortable, I know there are a few on here that don't like hybrids at all, Whatever I do, trying to hit them like a long iron or a wood they just seem to turnover a heck of alot.

As I've got older and alot stronger im hitting the ball further. So i've found that on several holes at my club even a 3 wood becomes to much in summer.

Ideally i'd like a 220 yard club to hit into par 5's and longer par 3's

I toyed about with the idea with a 5 wood but dont know whether I could get it rising enough to land softly

What are my options to find that 220 yard club??

I'd say your best option would be to find a 21-23 degree utility that you like and stick with it, or if you dont fancy that then give in and have a bash with a 5W!

I dont think there are any other options?

You should go for a rescue club probably a 3 iron equivelant, try hitting it like a short iron with a slightly descending blow taking a very small divot it helps get the ball in the air and land softly.

if you're as good a ball striker as it seems you are suggesting, there's only one way to go... 2 iron

a guy i played with at Muirfield last week used one to great effect on most holes.

have a read at the below thread on this page called 5w or hybrid, its pretty much an identical situation.

My stats match up pretty much the same as yours and I use the below:

Driver 280-300yds
3 Wood 250yards
5 wood 230-240
7 wood 210-220

I am currently struggling with my 4 iron and this is being replaced with a hybrid as we speak, I am just awaiting the postman to deliver one. I purchased second hand as I am not sure whether this is going to be a good thing, but I have nothing at the moment for 190-200, and my 5 iron copes from 180-190.

Have you tried the Yonex 3i hybrids?

I hadn't even thought about them until a few weeks ago and now I own a 19deg which is just awesome and goes about the distance you're after.

Just a thought.

Try a few. I bet there's one out there. My 5 wood lands softly enough, but then again it also collects snow.
Are there "tour spec" rescues? I'd imagine so.

5 wod is the way to go. I was striking mine really well last night and landing and stopping on the green twice using a Callaway green v ball or something. My they stop quickly. I'm off to find some on e bay. More blooming balls!

Try a few of the hybrids out such as the Titleist as I think it would give you what you are looking for, Similarly there are a lot of 5 woods out there that will give you a decent flight or how about the Fybrid that Harrington used in the Open

A lot of utilities are designed for players who slice the ball and/or need help to get it elevated.

If you don't want one of those, look at the TM TP, Titleist, Adams Pro, Sonartec MD (second hand now only), Mizuno MP CLK.

Ditch the 3 and replace with a 5wood. Noone can hit every par 5 in two consistently. I hit the ball a decent distance and use a 9 deg g15 driver and a 5 wood, I had a 3 wood but sacrificed it for a third wedge as it will get me out of more trouble than the 3w ever could.
