So last night I went to the driving range and all was going fine. first 30-35 balls were decent shots. Then I hit a horrible shank with my Pitching wedge....in fact I then hit 5 shots in a row, 2 of which were grass cutters, 2 went miles right and 1 went way left. After that I probably hit 1 in 3 shots in this way and just couldn't find my rhythm with the 8, 9 or P. I switched to my sand wedge and aimed at targets and I was fine. What the hell was that?! It was like my ball striking had abandoned me!

If the first 30-35 were 'decent shots' had you allowed yourself to let those "I can play this game" thoughts creep into your mind?

Sounds like the game was just reminding you who the boss is....

Welcome to real golf!

A few players are lucky but most of us are plagued by the shanks at some time, even if only briefly.
Or if you're like me they appear then disapper on a regular basis.

I hate sessions like this. Saps all the confidence and leaves more questions than answers. Put it down to a bad range session, perhaps play a few holes and see if the ball striking improves on the course

I had a similar experience on Tuesday night. Went down the range and whacked a few, just wasn't hitting them well at all. No shanks right enough but just too many fat n thin shots. Had a sore back too and just didn't enjoy it. Went up the road a bit miffed. Went back on the wed night as the missus had pals over again and completely different. Hitting most of them sweet and miles. Really enjoyed it and could have stayed there all night.
