What Stats, If Any, Do You Record From Your Rounds?

It's just the bare minimum from me at the minute, where, when and score.

About to play my first couple of rounds of 2009 and going to make a concous effort to count puts per round.

I'm not in a position (not good enough) to record fairways and greens hit.

Is there any, preferably free, software out that that does the job? I'm just using excel for now.

Just the score and how many putts for me. I think if I started recording too much at this stage in my golf then I'd probably get very disheartend with it all! I think its easy to "over-stat" as well, the only one that really matters is the score! ;)

try Score saver 2, I know a few of the lads on here use it.

I record,

Score- Obv

Fairway hit- I just put a p next to hole number

G.I.R- I circle the hole number

putts per round- I write number of each putts per hole next to hole score and add up at end.

Can Score Saver 2 be downloaded? I'll have a look tonight.

And a good simple way of recording fairways and greens, might consider that, well, fairways at the minute. GIR would probably be less than 3 at the minute!

Yes it can, www.scoresaver.co.uk. You get it free for 30 days. If you need info it or details of available discounts, please PM me.

For £0 you can use Golfshake's basic service www.golfshake.com. It all depends what you stats want to record. There are also lots of websites such as www.mulliganplus.com which offer a variety of stats and handicapping services for £0 or £Small up to around £30/year on subscription (such as www.strokeaverage.com).

Fairways, Greens and Putts - do it in my head in the car on the way home.....

Don't write anything down as I know I'll never actually look at it - just analyse the last game and work on whatever needs doing befoe the next game....

Last year, none although unbeknownst to me until latterly, the club loads the competition scores to a website.

This year, I have decided to make an effort to record scores, no other data as yet though putts seems an obvious one. Only one round to record as yet this year but I didn't count putts.

I may look into some of the s/w to decide how much hassle it is going to be recording more data.

Incidentally, how do you go on about recording data from a medal? Carrying and marking a second card does not seem a user (or partner) friendly option.

I can replay the whole round, shot by shot, at any time until I play again, and over write the data. I don't want to, but it is there in my head, along with other useless stuff I can't get rid of. No wonder I can't sleep.

Good question, VC17. I am just about to invest in SS2 having trialled it as a means of recording, but I am concerned about the actual process of noting down the info on the course, as I faff about enough between shots/holes as it is, and don't want to become a slow player...

I must say I was a bit sceptical about all this recording of information, but I downloaded Scoresaver2 last week and have it on trial. I'm still working my way around it and my only gripe so far is that maximum handicap is 28 so HID can't use it. I have only entered one card on it so far, but the stats it gives you are quite excelent.

Andy, I'll be PMing you for that special forum discount when the trial period's up. ;)

Twire,

Surely we do not want to disadvantage HID ?

The handicap limits are 28 for men, 36 for ladies and 54 for juniors. The limits are set by selecting the gender on the player setup page: double click any name in the list of players on the left hand side of the main screen to get to the player editor and look for the Gender box under the player name.

Andy.

Scoresaver 2 is a must. I have only input two rounds and the amount of information it gives you is excellent. If your honest the results can be a real eye opener.

On my last two rounds I hit 45% of G.I.R and 86% of fairways but with this information and the scores I put in it meant that my putting was letting me down...which I thought was my main strength.

It also gives you your handicap your playing to in each area eg my Fairways is (PRO) my G.I.R is (6) but my putting is (17)

As I said this is only based on two cards so these figures would drastically change (prob for the worst!) But it is still good to know.

I record or memorise every recent round I play and when I get home I look at recent results and assess improvement or not and I look for faults eg. cocking up the same hole too frequently, or making bogey too often on a hole I should not have trouble making par.

After a while those records are dumped, I dont hang on too long, then I start a fresh bunch.
