What score makes the weekend bearable?

I guess it all depends on the sss of the course. 34 points is break even here off the yellows so that's a decent score. 36 and I would be throwing a party.

My other course is 39 so if I have 36 points I am generally disappointed in what I have done. I score 36-39 regular.

35-37 is statistically outside of the buffer. The 36pt myth strikes again :)

You are also perpetuating the 36 points myth. 36 points is playing exactly to handicap providing that par and SSS/CSS are equal. For every stroke SSS/CSS differs from par the goalposts move i.e.:

SSS/CSS 2 more than par means 34 points is playing exactly to handicap.
SSS/CSS 2 less than par means 38 points is playing exactly to handicap.

So buffer zones move with the wind.

Can't disagree with that for obvious reasons!

Also fairly obviously if SS moves to 3 under then my happy score moves to 37-39pts and if the SS goes to 1 over then I'm happy with 33-35pts because the evidence says that the course has played easier or harder than standard for whatever reason!

I think I play the game for different reasons to the rest on here. I could score 40 points, but if I was playing with three numpties I would not enjoy the game at all. 25 points and having a laugh with mates beats most weekend alternatives to me (I am assuming that Kelly Brook was unavailable:whistle:)

Spot on rich

The points scored is an after thought

As long as I enjoyed the banter on and off the course then I leave happy

Round in 80 or less is OK

Round in 75 or less is very good.

Even I shot 110 and had a laugh it would still be more than "bearable" though

Have read a few posts lately about 36 points being the norm.
I for one don't see this, purely because every course is different.
However my question is-what makes your weekend game bearable.
For me anything that starts with a 2 is diabolical.
A 3 and its bearable.
A 4 and its a great weekend.
On my course high 30s is the norm.

Anyone scoring high 30's every week has got the wrong handicap!

I agree with Rick. Unless your SSS is markedly lower than par, then high 30s should not be the "norm".

Am pleased if I'm knocking shots off my gross whenever I play but in all honesty I just love playing it. Refuse to do stableford scoring as I don't like it.

Where is bomber when you need him?? Stableford points are for chompers, diggers & weekend warriors!!!

Go low or go home

Either that, or I'm content playing a mixed greensome, followed by a tea cake in the bar.:D

30+ points is always a decent day at the office. any less and I have mucked up somewhere!

no matter how bad my front 9 is, I can usually knuckle down and scrape 30 points in the end.

Board competition ?
I'm not motivated by something as superficial as seeing my name on the a board Rich, even though I'm up there twice

It's really the tea cakes and the fruit based tea afterwards that floats my boat:thup:

Have they chalked up your winter league (mixed greensomes handicap 24-28) victory yet ??

Hitting the buffer and avoiding a .1 is a good weekend's work. 33pts at the weekend with a CSS of 35pts I did enough to stay where I was and win the division. Pleased with a couple of birdies but not so pleased with the couple of blobs.

Most weekends I'm playing 4bbb matchplay, so as long as I get a good close game, ideally decided on the 18th, with a bit of a laugh thrown in, I'm as happy as I ever get.

Medal is a different game entirely.
