What next?

So you buy a kettle you can switch on with your phone to save time, but get 6 points and a nice fine in the process.......

I couldn't believe it had reviews

''Not much point of an expensive wifi kettle if the wifi doesn't work. I had to take it back after battling for days!!''

''Honest officer I wasn't on my phone, I was putting the kettle on''
:D

Another cure for a problem that doesn't exist for the obsessed mobile phone idiot with money to boil

It's a nicety at the end of the day - not an essential bit of kit but something some will find nice and of use.

I don't think it's been invented as a cure to a problem as with most gadgets

There are a lot of things in the house that can now be done on the mobile before you arrive home

If you have a meter in the house showing power consumption then you will know that kettles are just about the most power inducing product in your house. Once you see your meter spike you learn to only turn it on when required and only fill the amount you need. Turning the kettle on when you are 10 minutes away to then need to turn it on again is plain daft. A gadget for muppets.

Agreed it is for pandering to the lazy but it's all about the tech for me and the clever, forward thinking people who want to progress rather than stay covered in dust.
By your logic we'd still be riding penny farthings and throwing poo out of the upstairs windows.

you wont be creating a smart home then Bob, its going to be a huge market, everything will be controllable from your phone, there are already smart fridges with internal cameras, tocuhscreens for ordering food on them, Hive and such products will become more mainstream, its very early days for the IOT market, but it will be massive. If i had the balls, i would set up a business now for creating, installing etc smart homes. its gonna be huge! I think that the over 50's golfers are not the target market though...

Pressing a keypad on your phone instead of pressing a button on your kettle is progress?

Yes it is, it's the technology behind it they are harnessing which is the progress, just because you don't agree with the end product doesn't change that. Everyone dissed smart phones and tablets when they first came out, look now.

On another note, I was speaking to a fella the other week who'd programmed a Raspberry Pi to turn on the outside lights of his house, it was triggered by the wifi signal on his phone connecting to the home wireless network, ie when he pulled up on his drive the
lights came on. Maybe he could just buy a PIR security light but it isn't half the fun then :D
