What is your Official Current Handicap

Intelligent Golf is probably the best but most expensive.
Club Systems new ClubV1 is far better than the old 2000 but their support is poor and still slow to respond
Handicap Master has by far the best service and response times (and cheapest).

Club systems has the advantage of being integrated with membership and bar/catering till systems.

Would it be ok to find out what system they use ?

Losing the will to live with Club Systems and HDID and trying to find alternatives

I lost the will to live with it about 5 years ago so we changed from Club Systems to HandicapMaster. We only use the Competition and Membership side as we have a different EPOS system for the bar cards, so I can't really comment on the "full package". Having said that we have found the program to be bulletprooof at all levels. The technology underlying it is robust (SQL database) and the MasterScoreboard Website (HDID equivalent) is clean, simple, add free and not trying to sell "premium membership" etc. Oh, and it's much cheaper. IMHO (and I used to be a SW developer) Club Systems is only the market leader because they were in first and depend on the reluctance of clubs to change for maintaining that position. If all the vendors were coming from a standing start they wouldn't be around or would have had to massively up their game.

As for time taken to finish comps we work as a team. For example, a committee member playing in the morning will empty the card box at lunchtime, separate into divisions, keep leading scores for checking, highlight any DQ's etc. At tea time someone else will do the same. Sunday, someone goes in, checks the few remaining cards from the box, looks at the computer and makes sure it all matches (top 6 or so in each division) then close the comp. Fully appreciate that when it's all left to one person it's quite a task (did it for 4 years) and it will vary with club. Ours is very social, there are always people about at weekend including committee people having a drink well into the evening every Saturday which certainly helps. Really wasn't having a go above, it just annoys me why some people go on committees and then do no work and I'm pretty sure most clubs are familiar with those types :)

Our committee each have their own roles to fulfill - I have a HC committee helping me - well two guys who do a lot of work during the week.

We all have so much work to do I can't expect the others to also do competition closing - a lot of them would struggle with the club 2000 side of stuff

Our pro handles the comps admin but he gets part of the entry fee as recompense. All top cards checked, comp results and master hcap list posted first thing next morning.

Is your pro paid a salary by the club? If so, why does he get extra for looking after a comp?

Most Pro's don't get a full salary, they receive a retainer and the rest is made up through running comps which involves providing cash prize vouchers to be spent in their pro shop, I think some get a percentage of green fee's also.

Imo, that's old fashioned. Pay him a salary and make those things part of his responsibilities, providing him with the necessary education - Rules, handicaps, comps.

Ours is very genned up on Rules & Handicapping. He sits on the Comps/Handicap and Green Committees. His 'fee' for comps is an amount per player (taken from the entry fee) as the workload depends on the no of entrants. The rest of the entry fee goes to prizes and the comps budget (to contribute to the software cost and trophy engraving/purchase etc).
Although we give vouchers for the pro shop for internal comps, entrants to opens are now looking for more generally useable vouchers (eg M&S).

Let's see. What happened to the old days when we were each responsible for posting our score on our individual handicap card, and calculating our new handicap based on those scores? Now we want to blame the volunteer who is supposed to post the scores for us and/or the computer which doesn't have the most recent scores that were supposed to be posted by the volunteer? It's "our" handicap, let's look after it "ourselves." Computers have not removed the personal responsibility.

Think theres a missed the context of the OP we are all responsible for looking after "our" handicap in a downward direction relative to score achieved and SSS immediately after you finish. Its the 0.1 increases you are not allowed to apply and are relent on the club volunteer committee to apply.
