After reading a letter in last months GM and the comment afterwards it got me thinking, how much would I pay to pay a course whether world championship or a standard course. I came to the conclusion that for me $50 max and for a day maybe $65 due to the current climate of this country.

What would you guys pay max on general?

ps: the dollar signs are because my pound sign has gone missing!

grrr I nacked the poll up :(

on average not more than £25, but then i'm a beginner.

however, i could easily understand paying in excess of £100 to play a special venue as a treat.

£30 - £50 for a good course for Carnoustie there’s MasterCard.

That worked a lot better when I first thought of it!

I agree ;)

I think £30 for a round is my limit at the moment for a normal course and maybe £45-50 for a day of golfing, just can not justify it with the wife any more. Having said that I have bought a load of T shirts, balls and other stuff this last week for a fortune, but its all needed!!

Payed £130 for a day at Woburn last year. Dukes the Marquess and a great 3 course lunch.

Normally my max would be £50 but for a one off I would pay the extra.

I think of it as - dont go out on the beer for one weekend = £100 saved thus free day for golf (or new club etc) and no sore head.

Only problem is I find I am going out for less and less beer 'cos the fuel bills keep going up, so my arguement is loosing its sway.

I would look to pay up to £35.00 on average for a normal round on a normal course. Would probably double that for a more renowned course but would only break the £100.00 mark for a course of world renown or as a one off if on holiday

My problem is usually with the £35 , courses I've played a few around Liverpool and whilst they are decent I keep thinking it's twice what I normally pay and they aren't usually twice as good

Would pay £100+ for the top courses but only when I can play muuuuuuuuuch better than I can now!

I am the skin flint who chose 20 quid!

I am not tight with my money ( i will pay 100 quid for a pair of jeans) but all the courses i play near me are around this price or less and are very good courses. So i cant really justify paying anymore.

I play 3 times a week so it normally costs me atleast 60 quid in green fees and then there is the range, balls, food and drink to consider.

Dont get me wrong i would happily sell my car, body and girlfriend to play somewhere like augusta but on a weekly basis, £20 is my limit(ish)

Wouldn't baulk at £40 for most decent courses, but paid £130 this morning at the Old Course plus £40 for a caddie and extra for tip. Worth every penny. Been waiting 28 years for this!

I can remember not wanting to pay £80 (or thereabouts) for the Old Course when it was my 40th. Wish I had now cause it will be over £150 by the time of my 50th!

John,

Did having a caddie make it any easier than you expected ? I know theres lots of room on the left of most holes, but, did the caddie give you an edge do you think?

Prubs,

Agree with you idea of taking the day ticket. I'v done that many times on "better" courses. First time round you get the feel for it, afternoon round you can go for it! I always feel I get a better experience at a "better" course doing it that way.

Not sure, Dave. He clubbed me really well after the 1st 4 or 5 holes but you just can't describe the lines properly from many of those tees because there are just so many hidden bunkers. Luckily I was driving very well and was on the fairway most holes. I'm guessing he saved me maybe 3 shots on the approach shots though and just confirmed my thoughts on most putts.

Great to have your bag carried for you, though.
