I finished work early today so went down to te club for a bit of practice. I played each hole with one ball as I waned to get as many holes as I could before dark but when I got to the green rather than putt I chucked 2 balls into the fringe to work on my chipping.

Everything was fine until I got to the 6th. I'd hit my tee shot through the green so chucked my second ball into the rough. I chipped the first to about 2 feet and followed it with the second to about 6 inches when I hear a female voice shouting at me "excuse me, excuse me!" i was a bit surprised to hear anyone as I hadn't realised there was anyone else on the course. I look up and there's four ladies walking off the 17th. "You're only allowed to play one ball". I was very close to saying something but instead I just turned away and went to retrieve my balls. Then she says "It is in the rules"

Now I'm not kidding the course was empty. There was no-one behind me and I suspect very few people between me and them 11 holes ahead of me, so why in god's name did it matter if I chipped two balls, and more importantly what did it matter to her?

I do wonder whether some people have got nothing better to do.

She was totally correct. Most courses will employ a no practicing on the course rule. Saves your course from being ripped up from people hitting 3 balls from the same place and creating divots everywhere.

FFS !!
I hope you continued once they turned their back ;)

The no practice on the course rule is a load of rubbish. She has a case to fight if you were hitting 80 yard shots but from around the green out the rough?

My Pal was 'Scolded' for the same thing last year, by the Club President...........!!!

My Pal was LIVID
7pm last summer , course empty
No Harm Done.........SURELY...........??

You should have said, "Do you know what 'golf' stands for?" That would have really ticked her off!

Honestly, I don't know why people do it, I can understand if the course was busy, but when it's dead.....stop being a pompous idiot. People like her are the reason so many people don't bother signing up at clubs or taking up the sport all together.

My club doesn't have a "no practising on the course" rule and the pro openly encourages people to play 2 or 3 balls especially inside 100 yards, obviously only when the course is empty. If they kicked people off for doing such a thing I'd have been kicked off within 10 minutes of signing up as a member!
