Maybe 50 balls on the range a week if that then play around 2 rounds a week during the summer.

I'm not sure what you mean but I'm guessing:

Do I hit my target with the driver... Not very often lately
Do I hit targets on the driving range... Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't just like any other golfer

Consistency.

I can nail my driver one hole, fluff it on the next. I can hit an eight iron 160 straight as you like off one fairway and scuff it 20 on the next. I can knock a 10 foot putt in on one green, miss a two footer on the next.

Guess thats why i am off 22 but it is annoying knowing you can do it. Work harder is the answer i reckon!

I'm not pro why would I? I won a £10 voucher for the pro shop once but I doubt ill top the money list with that

Approach shots, mostly pitching accurately onto the side of the green I want. This often leaves me with a tricky two putt instead of a birdie chance.

For me the hardest thing is getting good advice, even when you pay for it. All pros are great golfers, but too many don't know how to pass that knowledge on. I've been playing for 20 years and have improved more in the last year than the previous 10 (despite going to 3 different pros in that time) by using books, GM and Youtube. Have to say though, books and Youtube have the same problem. Sorting out the good advice that works for you from the utter guff that gets printed and posted online!

Being a great player does not automatically make golf pros a great teacher. I had great teachers when I started out (when I lived in a different area) but the ones I've met recently have not been good. I'm an academic myself and know the same thing is true in my area of business. I have worked with many who are great researchers but find difficulty in passing on their knowledge to their students.
