Currently using last years Titleist AP2's but as a new player should I be using GI clubs?

When I bought these clubs, I was a little naive. Although I did think to myself 'If I can hit learn to hit these then I can learn to hit most clubs).

What do you think?

Must say it is not the most forgiving bag of clubs I have ever seen. However now you are down to 18 in such a short space of time the ability must be there. If I were you I would stick with them. Do you feel they are costing you shots?

To be honest, I don't know if they are costing me shots because I've never hit other golf irons.

I tried to be sensible and I originally had the Ping G15 driver and Hybrid - both with the regular shafts. But I hit the 910 gear with the stiff shaft loads better.

To be fair the 910 D2 is not that hard to hit. Probably the most forgiving club Titleist have made especially with the ability to add more loft etc. However I found the fairways and hybrids a bit of a bitch to be truthful great when hit well awful when not more of the latter in my case. The AP2's are not at the top end of unforgiving in Titleists range though, not in the same league as the 712MB or the CB which are for really good ball strikers. Carry on working on your game and the AP2 will last you for years right down to low single figures:thup:

The Hybrid I think is fairly forgiving but I do agree that the 3 wood can be very difficult at times.

Cheers mate

I would stick with what you have. Ethan would tell us any head as long as its the right shaft.

I like you have some edgy clubs for my hc but they make me feel sexy so I enjoy them.

Stick with them leany, remember many years ago there was only blades and people managed quite well.

Give them a chance if you really can't play with them with any enjoyment then absolutely seek out a better suited club for you.

I would say do some research and check you ahve the correct shaft, if not and you are going to change then it might make sense to get some slightly more forgiving clubs. If the shaft suits though I would stick with them as there is quite alot of help built into the AP2's.

Well I'm firmly in the 'I'll Take Any Help I Can' camp. Whilst it does good for the ego with a bag full of 'proper' irons the truth out on the course is often very different. We can all hit shots with just about anything from 7iron down to wedge, but it's the mid irons that are often the clubs that can put us into trouble if we're not striking the ball well with them. Struggle there and your scores will show it.

Some will argue that 'it's all in the shaft' and whilst I agree with that to a point, I'm not in agreement with the 'get the shaft right and any head will do' camp. The clubhead has to transfer all the energy and momentum built up during the swing. If the choice of clubhead can give you an advantage, why not take that advantage.

I've played the game for a good number of years, I've played between 18 and 7 handicap at various stages of my golfing life and I've used a variety of clubs in that time. Whilst there's nothing better than hitting the perfect shot of crisp, tight links turf with a bladed club, I usually find that they only happen now and again ;)

My current clubs are probably the most GI irons I've ever played because I've realised that I don't play or practice regularly enough to get the most out of a nice shiny set of Mizzies and one's golfing ego soon takes a hammering as the poor results stack up.

It doesn't matter what you use a bad swing will still result in a bad shot. As DV said years ago all you had were blades and folk managed all right then.
