What hc do you consider to be a good player?

A quick squint at our club's data says the average handicap is 18. So a lower HC is better than average; but I guess the top 25% percent would be good i.e. playing off 12 or better.

I didn't mention advice but now that you have I'll say that I wouldn't take much from on here, I'd go to the magazine (tips) pages instead.

Pardon me for asking but are you a good golfer, been there and done it, washed up or are you an also ran ... Should I take advice from you or at least listen, or chuckle?

Shaft technology? If you're starting a new thread I'll read it.
My point is, it's an open forum were some people know each other, some have met a lot and some have met a few and some not at all, there are people on here who I will readily read what they post and trust what they say, some others are the complete opposite. I will always listen to advice but whether I use it is another matter.
As for me, expert in nothing Golf, love the game and happily host or play with anyone, life's too short to take 90% of the forum seriously😃

I mainly just play in a society and I would say that the players below 18 are the better and more consistent. As has been mentioned earlier. Once you need pars (less than 18) for stable ford points the. You're a good golfer imo. People saying scratch are I of unreasonable. I've played with many good footballers and tennis players. But none of them are near prem standard. But still very good.

It depends how you determine what GOOD means, for me GOOD = 6 h/cap, I'd happily say that someone is a good player if they knob it round in a handful over par. Someone is very/really good if they can maintain a 2/3 h/cap and an excellent player if they can stay below those figures. IMO of course.

NB (as an aside) I don't think there are many people that have a GOOD swing until they become a 4 h/cap.

Ok, It sounds like we're both cr@p and having met and played with some folk from this forum I know Not to take their advice, I'll shove you into that category as well.

So after that great discovery I do agree with you that life's too short and that's exactly why I won't play with some folk on here

I'm going to give you some advice.... good advice too;)

You shouldn't wear black socks with shorts!!

mind you i was lower than you last time we played so maybe you are allowed to listen:rofl::rofl:

Lots of posts on this thread, going to go back to the start and read them all.

will post my thoughts once I have had a chance to read them all

Anyone playing off 10 or under is a pretty decent player IMO.

I play off 18 & feel that I play to a standard that I enjoy the game.
But I'd say I'm not very good if I'm being honest.
I sometimes play with a few lads from work who play off 28 who struggle to get 20pts at times,I honestly think I'd pack in if that was me.
But they enjoy it & that's all that matters.

Happy with that, but I do get up to Edinburgh quite a bit so if I ever get a chance to meet on the course I'll make sure I don't ask for advice:p

And always ensure you remove your hat before combing your hair:thup:

For me a good golfer is someone that can finish a round with the same ball that they started with.
(And if they can do this for two consecutive rounds then they're exceptional/Pro material)

Close the thread.

As club golfers with other things to do and tend not to practice often I think
0-5 very good
5-10 good
10- 18 steady
18-28 need to try harder.

I think it's also relevant to the level you currently play at.

For example if you are off 28 you probably see 18 as a good golfer as they "only" get 1 shot per hole.

I currently play off 3, according to some I would be classed as excellent, however I see a good golfer as some off scratch.

I guess in simple terms, aspiration probably drives perception of what a good golfer is

Having a "good" handicap doesn't automatically make you a "good Person"

The (thankfully rare) opinion that being Category 1 makes someone superior to the rest of us lowly mortals is patent nonsense.
Diito the idea that non-category1 golfers are responsible for all slow play.
The slowest golfers on the planet are the Professionals

I know the question is what handicap for a good player, but for me I'd say a good golfer regularly gets birdies, if you can get the ball in the hole in less than par on a regular basis then you are a good golfer.
