When have you suddenly watched a clip or read a book and instantly know that what you have been doing is wrong and you instantly know how to fix it ?. My moment was watching a dvd of a golfer on how to hit irons, I was always trying to get the club under the ball in the pretence that is how you got the ball airbourne instead of driving the club into the back of the ball and letting the loft do the work.

mine was chipping, i watched one of bobs videos where he had a club rested on 2 baskets about 3 ft in front of him and said to imagine you are trying to hit the ball under the club shaft in front of you. Low and behold, no thins anymore and the loft does the work! Thanks Bob!

Edit: this one:

not instructional, but playing a few years ago hitting the ball well and had just got down to 10, but couldn't get the ball to stop on a green.
Was playing with my mate Go Go Gordy so he asked me what ball i was using as every approach just bounced though the back. He gave me a Pro V 1 to try, at the time i just used any old ball. Anyway stopped on the green first time and again. That was a real lightbulb moment;)

hitting down to make the ball go up.

learning about outside in, inside out club paths.

oh and hands ahead when chipping! - changed my game!!

When I invented the V-easy

Glad it helped

I don't know about Eureka moments, but I've had plenty of "you reek" moments.

So far, the huge steps forward for me have been trusting the loft on irons (like someone else said), and discovering how leaning back is such bad news. Best of all, discovering what an all-out buzz this game is; from the exhileration of the few decent shots I've hit, to the sheer enjoyment of being amongst nature (sometimes too amongst it, after a spammed shot!).

Sorry, I know you probably wanted a Maharishi-style revelation...but the above add up to one for me!!

Too many to mention and none have ever rescued my chipping including Bob's video. I do get some benefit from the V-Easy and then revert to type again at the first sign of pressure. In 2013 and the new era of the glass half full Homer I am just trying to simplify everything (including the chipping) and not think too much about anything

I can clearly remember finishing a round at the age of about 50 and thinking 'I am never going to be good enough to get on the tour'. After that the pressure was off and I descended into my current game. I wonder if I cured my lack of ability I could make it now?

H, the big thing for me when chipping or on short pitches is not to slow down through the ball. If it's a short shot, the worst thing I can do is take too long a swing, then slow down when approaching contact with the ball. Short swing and zip through it is the way for me. Expect you've heard it all before though, mate!! PS. I think Mr Mickelson calls it 'positive contact'.

Left hand below right putting (right handed).

Huge improvement in my putting, those that have seen me might find that hard to believe but I was truly honking before!!

Just enjoy it!!!! Don't beat yourself up after a disaster and realising that having a qualifying card in your pocket puts no extra pressure on you in the big scheme of things nor is it the reason your putts won't drop.

If firing into the green think about what distance you have before you go off the back of the green. A 5 iron might be the yardage but how often do you hit the 5 iron that well. Sometimes a 4 will be better, and still won't go off the back.

After returning to the game in 2008 and hitting a lot of fat shots in moments of need,,,,, probably this.....

When I watched Brandt Snedeker and his putting closely. It made me think how much simpler putting can be and the importance of acceleration.

The few rounds since I've holed more putts and improved distance control.

Other than that realising golf is a game of misses and doesn't matter how great my good shots are its accepting that I will hit bad shots as that they won't ruin my round.

bobmac

Pretty much covers it :)

My pro commented how good my putting was when we played together on Saturday, didn't miss anything outside 5 feet. I nearly sold him a V-Easy too!

Thinking about my target while I'm playing a shot rather than thinking where my arms/legs/body etc should be, especially for the short game.
