Looking at all the threads recently on distance.
My question is-what distance extra would you expect from your driver,
compared to your 3 wood.
As most who have played with me,know i use my 3 wood instead of a driver.
The reason i do this is because im more confident with it.
I dont lose much distance,probably 20 yards.
How far past your 3 wood, would you expect to hit your driver?

When I spoke to the pro about this he explained that a 3w and Driver would carry about the same yardage but the driver would roll on where as the wood will generally stop quickly. So it should be what ever roll you would normally get?

I guess my difference is probably about 10 yards. I can hit the 228 yard par 1st opener with a three wood all day (well the straight ones) and my average drive is about 235. To be honest there isn't really that many opportunities at this time of year to hit the 3W at my place. It comes into its own in the summer when there are ditches to avoid if you go too long on several holes and when the rough grows and accuracy is a premium

Being honest I struggled to notice a difference between my driver and 3 wood. In the end dropped the 3 wood and added a 5 wood.

The distance between the two is now noticeable, but with only having the 5 wood a few weeks I haven't had the chance to measure the distance gap yet

On an average shot 20-30 yds. Occasionally I might get a little further especially if I'm swinging well however if I try too hard there's a 60/40 chance that it'll go somewehere I don't want it to and if my second shot is as poor as my first I'm in trouble.

I think my carry with driver is 10-20yds past my 4 wood, but the f/w gets little to no roll whereas the driver would roll out much more depending on conditions.
