What do you drink whilst playing golf?

'Enhanced hydration' I'm sorry but this is a load of nonsense.

You do not enhance hydration by adding things to water unless you are significantly deplete of those things.
Most people playing golf have adequate or excess calorific intake and adequate or excess salt intake you needn't add anything and they will not relieve soreness the next day.
If people want something that tastes different to water thats fine but there is a so much unscientific nonsense talked about sports drinks. They are marketing tools.
 
I was telling my daughter the other week, she is 20, how growing up Lucozade was only for when you were ill, it could only be wrapped in orange cellophane. The marketing head who decided to turn it into a sports drink was an absolute genius. It has transformed the brand but for those of an age, me included, it will always have a tinge of 'ill' or 'old' about it. Saying that, if I forget my water on a hot day then orange Lucozade is my go to drink, mmmmmmm :D.
Still love it to this day, always a treat when you were ill, now whenever I like.
 
I fill up my 750ml Chillys bottle with tap water and I'm good to go.
If it's a morning round I'll take a can Tenzing with me as well.
 
I will again choose to die on the hill of this subject. :D Golf isn’t even exercise.

There is evidence to say that athletic performance is impaired when dehydrated.

However golf isn’t athletic for the vast majority of us. It’s only 4 hours of light walking and standing still so nobody really needs to drink during a round. Obviously there are exceptions like being massively hungover, it’s a hot day and you’re sweating profusely.

Choosing to drink is different. I stay away from sugary drinks as they are counterproductive in the long run. A couple of sips of water is all I feel I need during a round. A 330ml bottle of water often lasts me 2 or 3 rounds.

Being an athletic golf at the elite professional level is where it might get different but those guys don’t become athletic through golf. They achieve that in the gym and that’s significantly different.

Depending on the water source and filtration methods used by your local water company or Britta filter at home you can lose a lot from water. Adding electrolytes to one 500ml portion of water can help massively but I would tend to have this before the round and have plenty of plain old council pop during.

A lot of what? You don't need electrolytes on the way around a golf course. The most common electrolyes are Sodium and chloride of which most people consume more than is healthy.
 
Coffee from the half-way hut if it's cold, or water if it's hot. Or perhaps nowt. I've got into my 7th decade on this regime and I don't think I've suffered because of it.

Ah yes, it was for ill people, not old people. I mis-remembered. But it certainly wasn't a "kewl" product.

That’s why I have mine before. I find it helps with water absorption.
 
Lucozade plain or sport works for me. Not fussed about whether it's optimum or not. It quenches my thirst for the duration of a round and tastes better than water.
