For those of you looking for sordid revelations of forest fuelled manlove I'm afraid you are going to be left rather disappointed by this post.

Bob gave me belief at Thetford. I don't think I've ever really had it before. I now love my fade rather than wanting to straighten it out. I believe in my swing rather than fretting about it. I whittled down a zillion interchangeable swing thoughts to just two.

Went out to practice today and worked on two things:

Bob's advice on short pitches
Bob's advice on loving my fade

Result was some of the best wedge shots I've ever hit. Brimming with confidence and looking forward to getting on the course again.

Seriously, if any of you are in the vicinity of Lincoln and are not currently taking lessons, or are but are getting frustrated I strongly recommend you make a trip to Sudbrook to have a lesson with Bob. It will be money well spent!

Can't agree more with that.

I live nearly 200 miles away, but make semi-regular trips back to the shire for various reasons. Most times I see Bob, it's just to meet up for some casual golf with him and Jan as they are excellent company; but the money I've paid him for the help he's given me could not have been spent better. And I plan on using his services again in the future as my game develops. My game from 100 yards and in is slowly improving and although my swing changes aren't quite there I know what I need to work on to improve.

Plus, Sudbrook is a lovely little place to play golf, with practice facilities that are second to none.

I find it funny that most higher handicappers spend ages trying to lose their fade, whilst most Cat 1's spend ages trying to get one.

Tiger, it's just as well I "helped you" play the 18th.
It would have been bad form to win your own event. Bad form. :(
Good luck with the gentle fade though and to anybody thinking of playing some golf with Tiger in the near future, dont play him for money unless he's off around 12 h/cap :D.

Next game Tiger, I'll show you how to hit the drive I hit on the 18th :)

I spent all winter trying to get rid of my fade, at many points I thought I had but know I am going to roll with it. I was led to believe that it was easier to draw the ball with longer clubs but I find I am alot more likly to do so with my 8,9,PW than with any of the other because I dont smash them as hard, everything from there up is a fade but I feel in contol of it as long as my alignment is correct.

I would LOVE my stock shot to be a draw but I have got way to mixed up with it and forgotten that its about getting the white ball in the hole.

What did he tell you to make you love your fade Tiger, its only fair you share it as you have made a post about it. Was it that a fade is easier to stop on a green or something deeper?

PS sorry you did not get the man love in the trees you were after :o :o :D

LMAO! Definitely committed to working on hitting my hybrid again. Though in your defence you weren't the one who thrashed it into the bushes!!!

Bloody hell Bob. There goes my uber plan to earn some extra cash! ;)

Now that was a thing of beauty but I'd much rather learn how to play that high cut you bent round the corner one minute, a gentle draw the next and then an arrow straight bullet. All on command :o !!!!

I'd just hit a tee shot with my 3 wood and was slightly disappointed with the shape. Bob asked me what I was trying to hit. Draw, straight or fade. I said straight but at the moment I keep fading it. He pointed out that I was hitting 3 wood as far as his driver, that a lot of golfers made a lot of money with a fade and that if you hit a draw and a fade and both were flirting with out of bounds that the fade was more likely to listen to your pleas to stay in.

Then every time I hit a fade off the tee or fairway he kept reinforcing the point by calling it a good shot and telling me to just keep hitting it like that all day. In the 11 holes from 7 - 17 I scored 26 points and it would have been a lot more if my short game hadn't been so ropey. Honestly it could have been easily 30 points.

I think you have me confused with Aztecs ;)

Now here is the MANLOVE xxxxxxx get a room tiger ole buddy ... :D :D High cuts ,gentle draws , arrows fades all no bother ... oh i see you mentioned on demand .. oh .. right that does make a difference (& he slopes off quietly had bowed)

I guess belief comes down to a lot in golf and I'm sure if I could find a way of mainfesting an iota of belief into my short game a lot of my problems would be over. I'd love a fade but really struggle to hit one and if you have something that you can control (not a slice) and it works regularly then you are on the way to some handicap cuts

And I guess it has to be as simple as that.. If you have control of your shot the ball will start to go where you want it.

My brother in law said to me the other day "oh you were super lucky there, you started that off so left" I always knew it was coming back.

In my younger days when i was good at this game, i used to hit a small fade with the driver and was obsessed with turning it into a draw. When i learned to live with it i got down to 5, and did very well in competitive golf. Knowing that under pressure i could aim down the left and let it slide back in was a major advantage.

I've never quite been able to get that consistency back, and certainly under pressure i hit a few wayward ones these days as i don't have that confidence that the ball will behave. I actually find that i have to set up for a draw or a fade to give myself a fighting chance as i can plan the shot.

It's much better to have that image of what the ball is going to do, it really helps me commit to the shot better. I'd give anything to have that wee natural fade back now

Are you sure?

Most high handicappers have a slice caused by poor fundamentals of one sort or another where the ball starts doen the out of bounds line on the left of the hole and if they are lucky manages to stay on the right edge of the fairway.

Most pros who fade have excellent fundamentals and hit a shot which is pretty straight to its peak then drifts slightly to the right as it falls.

One is not just a diluted version of the other.
