Hoping that this will prove a fun thread for the masses and an inciteful one for me. If the R&A woke up feeling a little bit barking and decided that you could change your ball for each stroke what ball would you use for each part of your game from tee to green?

My experience is limited but from what I know Z-Stars would be my putting ball of choice, with a low spin 2-piece off the tee.

So what ball do you currently use and if permitted what ball would you use for:

Distance
Approach
Pitching & Chipping
Putting

I can only go with what I've played, so here are my choices;

Distance - Pinnacle FX Gold Long (not a bad all round ball for winter golf)
Approach - Pro V1
Pitching and Chippinfg - Pro V1
Putting - Pro V1

Anything I'm hitting with a iron has be the Pro V1. The feel is superb, although I do think that the Z-Star holds up better after a round or two.

Currently using the free Callaways but I also use ProV1 and X and Srixon Z-Star. All do the job I want and all do everything on the list.

Why change, when one ball does it all. ProV1.

Or, for driving, maybe Condor. These are banned by everyone for competitive use, because they go miles, and dead straight. You can't shape them at all. They sell them in the US, and I have tried one. Wow.

Err. Cost.

Premium balls aren't cheap. If you have a habit of losing a few a round, then it starts to add up. If however you don't lose balls, then why not. Premium balls scuff up quite badly when compared to cheaper alternatives and consequently are maybe only good for one round before being consigned to the practice bag.

Horses for courses.

I use AD333 at this time of year, and will probably continue to do so throughout the year as I cant fault them.
I never seem to lose balls, unless I buy Pro V1 then it's like chucking my money away.

Ditto easengrace, the AD333 has it all - I can't believe they are so cheap as well!! I paid the same for a dozen as one sleeve of ProV's would cost and the performance difference is negligable. The best thing is the feel from the putter which is easily comperable to a 'premium' ball.

ProV1x, I find them longer off the tee than the ProV1 and still get spin control around the greens. If they are good enough for Rory Mc & Mr Westwood there good enough for me

I would say the Callaway Tour i(z) as there long and still get good control around the greens. Does anyone know when there out as my local pro say they aint out yet?

I think I'll probably get a dozen Cally i(z) when the come out (end of March I think) as it was the best all round ball I've played. I'm keen to at least try one of the new TM Penta balls but as they are going to be even more expensive than the Pro V's I can't see myself forking out for any unless this really is going to be the ball to end all balls

Wilson Staff Dx2's all the way... :D :D
Long off the tee buttery soft on the green and even spin on the wedges

Odd, saw them today, £10.50 for 3.
