We've had three comps, scoring is not out of the ordinary. Par is 70, Course Rating is 68.7

Stableford
1st: 41 points off PH of 23 player has only 10 scores in his record so his index is volatile at the moment....his old Congu H'cap at time of changeover was 22. Will have a PH of 20 next time out.
2nd: 40 points off 28 old Congu h'cap was 25....he will have a PH of 26 next time out
3rd: 36 points off 12 old Congu was 12

Medal
1st: Nett 65 off PH 23 old Congu was 23
2nd: 66 off 25 new player only 6 scores in his record, so quite volatile, revised index is 20.7 so will be off 22 next time No Congu history
3rd: 66 off 14 not a new player but only 10 scores in his record so expect some volatility. Index now 11.5 so will play off 12 next time. Old Congu was 15,

Stableford
1st: 38 points off PH 28, old Congu was 28
2nd: 38 off 12, old Congu was 12
3rd: 38 off 11, old Congu was 11

So....other than a bit of volatility in players indexes due to low number of scores in their records I would say that the WHS has had little, if any, effect on our scoring patterns. Players for the most part are playing off PH's that are pretty similar to their old Congu handicaps. The new system will definitely chop rapidly improving players far more effectively than the old one ever did.

I think folks will grow to love the system once they get used to it.

The low handicap players (sub 10) are doing well, the high handicap guys arent doing so well.

Course really is in top condition, greens are rolling fast!

Mid handicappers seem to be dominating the comps though. Myself included :p :sneaky:

49 points won the first comp of the year on Saturday, 2nd had 42 points. Was a great day, course in good nick and off the greens so scoring generally was good.

Wow some of these scores are amazing. If 49 points won a comp at any of the clubs I've been a member it would 'create a noise' for sure.

Most stablefords are won at between 36 and 40pts depending on conditions normally. Maybe a very rare 41 or even 42.....but much higher than that you'll need a security firm to get you back to your car alive.

There was a weekend comp last weekend , 80 players over 2 days so 160 odd rounds......4 scored better than handicap and the best score out of 160 rounds was a 38.

There was some noise, hopefully an improving golfer and the handicap adjustments will sort it quickly. To be fair, first comp back and it's mostly high to really high h/cappers in the prizes, imagine the new system will see fairly rapid reductions.

TBH 36 would win most of the time, if you shot 38 points around Nairn you could be pretty conf you would be the winner.... 46 is unheard of until this year

Our first board comp yesterday and it was a medal on CR 70.8 SR 132. I came 13th out of 158 entrants. Lowest gross prize was 74 + 2 = 76. I was the only single figure handicapper in the top 15. In the nett 72 to 74 range about half were single figure handicaps. Seems indicative of something, but what?

90 - 22 = 68
92 - 24 = 68
84 - 15 = 69
89 - 20 = 69
81 - 12 = 69
86 - 17 = 69
94 - 24 = 70
82 - 12 = 70
86 - 15 = 71
87 - 16 = 71
92 - 21 = 71
81 - 10 = 71
75 - 4 = 71
87 - 16 = 71
84 - 13 = 71

after 3 competitions won by relatively high handicappers with net scores in the 60s, todays comp was won by me, one of the lowest, with just 37 points.

So favouring higher handicappers but i do think a lot more people are playing very close to their handicaps so can only conclude that WHS is working well

Our first individual weekend stableford comp yesterday with around 150 entrants. Highest score was 40pts by an individual playing off of a course handicap of 8. Nothing out of the ordinary noted in the overall scores.

Don't you have different handicap divisions/category winners and scratch prizes ?

No divisions for this type of comp at our place and just one prize for lowest gross. We have two players off +2 and two off scratch. Four players that mostly clean up those prizes throughout the year. Trying to get the H&C to change things is like urinating against the wind. We have one board comp that is/was for 10-18 handicaps and two for 19 and over. No decision yet by H&C on what the new HI range for these comps will be.

Our comp was won by a 28 handicap at the weekend with a nett 61 (par 71). I'd have had to shoot 6 under gross to win. We've a few plus handicappers who would have had to break 60 to win. 2nd and third were 27 and 26 handicaps.

In fairness, this seems a bit of an exception. There were 5 single figure golfers in the top 20 and in the first few weeks it's been a bit mixed between mid (10-18) and High handicaps in the top 3. Yet to see a cat 1 (in old money) get close to winning.

Before judging I think we need to give it a bit of time and let the new system work to adjust handicaps a lot quicker than before.

At the moment 38 ~ 44 points seems to give you a top 5 place, which has caused some mummering's, I pointed out that because of the Course Rating that Par is 38 points and some of the mature members look at me as if I've gone mad :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

A step too far
