What about all the little people who found themselves out of work when pantos stopped using them in Snow White? They weren't complaining about playing the parts but others felt enraged on their behalf and they lost out on good money.

Perhaps start by avoiding terms such as little people.

"Little People" was the politically correct term for dwarves. But, no doubt as soon as that gets used a lot, "Little People" will become offensive to some, and another term will need to be used.

There is a funny routine from Billy Connelly on the term. I'd post the link, but Billy Connelly swears so I don't know if posting the youtube link is prohibited here

I can assure you it's already offensive.

A google search states that “little people” is the mostly widely accepted term so that is what I will use.
Oh thats ok then if Google says it alright 🤣 trust me when I say we do not like being referred to as little people and I'm actually quite tall.😉

Weirdly, 'little people' is actually the political correct term apparently. I couldn't believe it either when I heard that, it sounds ridiculous to me. But there we are. I can't bring myself to say it because it does sound like you're taking the mick.

Well I guess they are little and they people 🤷‍♂️

Same as calling someone - tall or big or small ?

I just think it sounds silly - to me someone who's 5 foot is a little person but they wouldn't necessarily have dwarfism. But that's what they've decided on so it's up to them. (Well, I say 'they've' decided, I'm sure there are some who aren't keen, but somebody decided anyway.)

The whole thing on what you can and can’t say is a minefield - 99 people can be fine with it , 1 person is offended and that means you can say it anymore

Yeah, it's constantly changing. I think 'dwarf' used to be ok but they've moved away from it because they didn't like being likened to the Lord of the Rings etc dwarfs. But the condition is still called dwarfism so I guess they're stuck with that. I normally say 'people with dwarfism' as I did on the previous page as I can't bring myself to use 'little people'. 😬

So what is the preferred term then Pete?

Ai suggests “Little People” or LP for short! which makes me think of Leprechauns or “Person of short Stature” which is a bit of a long description for a short person. 🤷‍♂️

Why use big words when diminutive ones will do 🤷‍♀️

I just don’t know what’s appropriate, the only poster on the forum claiming to be in the “Vertically Challenged” group has not shed any light on the subject when I directly asked him. 🤷‍♂️
Nothing much to say really , people think it's ok to take the pee and say what they want when it comes to anyone who's way below average height. 🤷Can't see that ever changing. you cant think of a height related joke or name I haven't heard.
In comparison to some , I'm not actually that short , somewhere between 5'2 and 5"3 😂 but still well below average so lord only knows what it's like to be sub 4"10

Fair enough, I was just asking what was a non offensive term.
The other end of the scale… I used to work with two younger guys, one was 6ft 8in, the other was 6ft 11in, we used to go to the pub on Friday after work, the comments and “jokes” from complete strangers were relentless, sometimes at the end of the night when we was down in our cups they would tell how miserable it was being “different”.
