Over last couple of weeks struggling to get height on my irons, haven't altered the ball position ut can seem to get any consistency on height, can get a lesson for 2 weeks so any help on what I could try appreciated. My swing does deloft the club (so AG tell me)... cant be the clubs I use Nike covert VRS irons though tempted to throw them in a lake recently !

Try stacking more weight on lead foot(left if a righty) throughout whole swing. If you find straight away you are getting more height you probably aren't transferring weight onto lead side enough so will give you something to work on

Hit down on it.

Counter intuitively that is likely to make the ball go higher.

As a general rule, I find in order to fix whatever ailment I'm struggling with I have to do the opposite of whatever I feel like i should have to do to fix it...

difficult to say without seeing exactly what's going on & also to a degree depends what standard of golf you play
as a regular sub 80 shooter with too low flight likely doing something a little ways different to someone who shoots 90+ regularly but flies it ways too low

so could be down to a bunch of things (won't be down to any set of irons you use though)

shame the pro in AG don't give you any pointers?

so if you really are delofting the clubhead through strike

first off would check your grip, then set up & ball position & turn & weight shift - then check there is a 'release' of the hands/handle so clubhead through the strike

most times the folks I've seen with a higher index who have this kinda issue - the hold on the handle with either one or both hands have the hands to far turned clockwise on the handle so ways to strong

so if RH player - the right hand has the palm ways too much under the handle often times the handle running too much in the palm of that hand also

plus the left can also be turned too much clockwise so you see the top of the back of the left hand & the full logo on the glove ways too much at set-up

so altogether whether just the trail hand or both, the grip/hold is a ways to 'strong' which keeps the club face ways to closed (hooded, leading edge pointing a ways too much left)

folks don't always realize that when you shut the face down you also take a real bunch of the natural static loft off the club too start then have to deliver a ways too much dynamic loft through strike to get that leading edge anyways near to 'square'

so when you make a swing motion the club is real closed, loft shut down taking the club back to the top

the golfer then instinctively realizes to get the club face anyways near to square through impact to try to get the ball going someways to target that they gotta have the handle a good ways forwards of the clubhead
cause if they don't ball will mostly just go ways left, - but in delivering the club to impact like this, handle forwards, big forwards shaft lean that further delofts the face ball goes a little ways straighter due to the handle being ways ahead but the ball flight is really compromised & real low as the club is never really being 'released' through the strike

so would watch that the ball position is not ways too far back in the stance width

plus that you aren't making a 'false' upper body turn by keeping the weight on the lead leg (left for RH) & just tilting the shoulders so the weight never really gets to the trailside (right leg) rather than turning the chest & shoulders in a body 'turn' so weight moving into the right leg.

weight on the lead leg throughout will also give a lower ball flight

if this is what's going down you will need to turn one or both hands on the handle counterclockwise some with the handle to run more in the fingers so the thumb pads of both hands are more 'on top' of the handle - both 'V's (crease between thumbs & forefingers to point to mid trail shoulder (right shoulder)

then ball position just a little forwards of center stance width - around a ball, ball & half's width

during the backswing the weight travels in the direction of the clubhead so into trail leg to the top, back to lead foot at the start of the downswing

thing thats going to be a ways different is - if you have had too strong a grip so been really handle dragging so no real release through impact, you gotta learn to release the handle through strike

so you then want to feel (try in real slow motion without a ball) that the handle travels down just past the trail thigh with the butt end pointing forwards (towards target, parallel target line) but then that handle butt end needs to turn to point at around your lead hip socket which delivers the release through impact
then after strike that butt end will point trailside so it's turned through 90º

in effect - it will feel if you've been handle dragging that you are flipping your right hand 'under' through impact - something a good bunch of folks don't need to do & in fact trying real hard not to - but in your case -if- grip too strong so you've had to handle drag this is what you will need to work too & feel.

This is one of my many issues as well, so some top advice there sir. Nice one. :D

Great advice, thank coach, adjusted my grip today as per above as I have similar problems and hit 75% of Fairways with my Driver, Irons were certainly better also, thanks

Play around with the position of the ball on the club face at address.

Start near the heel and make your way to the toe of the club and see if you can find the optimum ball/club face position for you.

Just a thought and good luck!

Simple.

Look up to the clouds and let the body do it naturally. You'll find naturally you will have a bit more axis tilt and the club will finish higher in the air.

half shots with a PW work best initially.
